IDPA with black badge

I was just making fun lol, IDPA is a fun game too, I prefer IPSC, but that's just me. Shoot what you like and have fun

Shooting from cover is just such a bother. I'm a partially full mag drop in the open kind of guy. I always said that IPSC shooters like myself would so die in a gunfight...

Edit...after reading the other posts perhaps I am also out of touch with today's IDPA. Might be time to look into it again (says the guy with barely any time to shoot one forget both).

Agreed. IDPA is turning into IPSC Lite. Just the natural evolution of the game.

Was hoping to find an answer in this thread but it derailed quite a bit into IPSC vs IDPA. I'm in the same boat (have blackbadge and shoot IPSC) and one of the best parts for me about IPSC is that I can shoot at any club offering IPSC without being a member at said club.

I see target sports IDPA matches show up on practiscore, but it says it's for target members only. Sharon's website says that IDPA matches are posted on the Sharon website but I can't find any info so I presume I have to be a member at Sharon to access that part of the website. ESSA isn't listing any IDPA events as special events open to public.

I don't want to join IDPA only to find out I wasted money because I'm not a member of target or Sharon. Is my understanding on this correct? Or are there IDPA matches available that don't require you to be members at those two ranges?

I can’t speak to the specific ranges you ask about but I do know that IDPA allows for three initial matches to be shot without joining and paying their annual membership fee ( $40 cdn iirc ) and ranges around here just require the typical $10 insurance fee for guest on top of the match fee. Quite reasonable actually.

Contact those clubs to see what the deal is. You may be able to shoot as a guest with permission or something like that. Send an e-mail - TODAY. :)

Yes, check out the matches in your area. For the shooting from cover thing, I only ever thought of it as an IPSC foul line that's just behind the edge of the wall, forcing a leaning shot. I still want to drop partially full mags though. lol!

The membership fee is $40 USD , about $52 Cdn @ 30% exchange.

The membership is $40 US, but it is also only $40 Canadian, there is no exchange on it, just a straight $40 CAD

edgy that is wrong. Membership is $40US. It was $60.US up until recently. After Repete, and myself lobbied extensively for a change the annual fee was reduced to the same amount world wide. We all now pay the same. Due to logistical reasons mainly involved shipping and sorting, foreign memberships do not include a printed version of the Tactical Journal. The TJ can be down loaded from the IDPA.com website.

Take Care

Not hard to tell I don’t pay the bills around here Bob, surprised the wife hasn’t mentioned the exchange rate lol

For both you, and the OP, if you want to go out and shoot a match and have fun, check out ODPL or many of the outlaw matches that run in Ontario. Guelph Rod and Gun, sometimes I think it is closer to Toronto than Guelph, they run a variety of different matches, ODPL, 2 gun, 3 gun, same with the Galt Sportsman club, neither require membership to soot the matches, and great guys running matches at both. For the OP, you.re in Waterloo? Check out shooting opportunities with the guys from Shooters Choice. I like the outlaw matches, run what you brung, have fun, be safe, and have a great time with a great bunch of people.
And another hint, when you show up for a match, help out, patching, resetting targets, tear down at the end of the day, the guys running this matches will never get rich, it is mostly volunteers that do it for the sake of the sport and sharing their passions. It's not a bunch of sponsors footing the bill and paying for the labor, chip in and give them a hand.
