If only Canada didn't ban the HK MP5 by name...

I don't see how it's scary looking. It is an elegant piece of machinery.

To us logical minded people, its a elegant piece of machinery! to the Liberal Anti GunGrabber its a death machine that if left alone could kill children and innocents in a heartbeat with blood running down the streets!
You must be of the logical mindset without repressed fear and Liberalism! ;)

^ all that.

Ever notice that pretty much all the restrictive gun laws in Canada seem to be based on hollywood movies of the 80s-90s?

Things like Barrett m82, mp5s, badass guns of all sorts were featured in some action movie and thus banned.

Every gun on the prohib list is there because it was in the Gun Digest Book of Assault Rifles - because it was the reference used to ban guns, no, really, that was the logic of the day.

banned by name and appearance. people keep forgetting to add that second part. remember the .22lr MP5 clone? it was considered a variant, despite the fact that the only similarities were the outward appearance.

its a real shame. its a fine looking rifle. i wouldn't care that it would be restricted, it would just be fun to own one. it would also make range trips pretty cheap, being 9mm and all.

I just realized that the rumors of a civi-G36 that I've been hearing on other forums are partially substantiated by this. I'm excited!

Complete and utter BS, regurgitated by someone who obviously has never handled one.

I don't agree with banning in any way, but I have handled one, and it can be done in about 15 seconds. This one isn't banned because of looks only. I'm not saying that's a good reason to ban it, but in this case my_2_cents is technically correct. It never ceases to amaze how many on CGN will jump on because emotional "wants" trump discussion in an on line forum...

While that may be the case, I agree that that is not sufficient cause to ban it. It is already illegal to convert it and others to full auto, so the 1984 concept of "double-plus ungood" is redundant. After all, it is illegal to pour gasoline on someone and set them alight, yet we don't ban Jerry cans because of the ease with which gasoline may be poured from a Jerry can.

The Anti-movement watched Robocop, Diehard & Commando/Terminator(Gun Store Scenes) especially for what to ban in the 80's, it was literally based on Hollywood to do this and it fit perfectly with Anti's propaganda agenda.

The MP5SF is just an MP5 with a semi-only trigger pack. They can be easily converted to select fire by swapping trigger packs. These are only sold in the LE market.

The HK94 has a different lower receiver that cannot accept the select fire trigger pack without modification. The bolt carrier is also not machined to trip an auto sear. This is the version formerly sold in the commercial market.

Presumably, any new version of the MP5 intended for private sale will also be sufficiently different from a select fire MP5 to preclude conversion by parts swap alone.

This isn't an issue of swapping parts. All you do is remove the fire select and she's full auto only. It didn't matter if you could swap parts at all. You just remove it. Nothing has to be added back and she goes bang-fast. Every one was capable without any work. Without any parts. Maybe the new ones have been altered so this is no longer possible, I don't know. The ones I handled were definitely well used and were MP5SF as they were supposed to be semi only. No idea on age.

That makes sense, considering that the selector on all of the roller locked HKs works by controlling the amount of trigger travel. With no selector, the trigger would travel all the way rearward, resulting in automatic fire. The MP5SFs were never designed to prevent full-auto conversion because they were only intended for agency sales where legality was not an issue. Given this, it is no surprise that they can be easily made to fire full auto.

On the HK94s, the trigger pack doesn't allow the trigger enough travel for automatic fire, plus there is no auto sear. An HK94 will not fire full auto just by removing the selector.

Exactly the movies I was thinking of. It's like why read the book when I can watch the movie. Well why do any research when Hollywood has done it for me!
