i know i asked this before and i know its BEEN asked before but for some reason i cant seem to find the threads.

quick question, i have $2,000 put aside for a SLR and im ready to pull the trigger on one.
whats the best bang for the buck right now?

i was thinking of a BCL-102 but you hear stories......

i really want a rifle that i can have 2 different uppers for, like a 308 and a 6.5 and be able to swap fast.
if you had 2K in your pocket which would you go for?

STAG?
BCL?
i know i should have been researching this more but life gets busy and i usually do my research in the winter when i have lots of time on my hands but i really kinda want to pick up this SLR and be able to tune it in this summer and use it this fall.

any suggestions would be appreciated.
especially if someone has owned several different brands and can speak to which had better quality and swapability (barrels, hand guards and such)

If you want a 308 and 6.5, that rules the SLR out. You won't be able to buy a 308 and swap a 6.5CM for $2000. You would need about $3000.

I think he means SLR as in Self Loading Rifle - and the answer would be the Stag - I couldn't ever see myself bothering with an NEA/BCL unless it was for pennies on the dollar.
Mods might move this to the Battle Rifle forum as that's where .308 sized threads go, and where most of the info on Stag Vs BCL has been moved to.

BCL is pretty much universally panned, everywhere.

No rifle is perfect but the customer service needs to be top notch. It's got neither quality or service to back it up.

Stag or the new Troy.

You can have a .30 caliber and a 6.5 in an SLR if you wish. 7.62, 300 BLK, 30 HRT, 30 American are just to name a few. Also The Grendel or something larger like the 6.8 SPC.

So you can have a variety of larger calibers.

There is no decision to be made here. There are no logical reasons to get a BCL over a Stag.

Your budget doesn't allow for both calibers, unless you find a smoking deal on a used one.

Do not buy a BCL, you will more than likely have problems with it, if not when it's new the problems will come a little later. Very few happy endings with BCL products.

I have a couple buddies with the Stag 10, been doing load development with one and it's been very reliable and has been grouping very well.

Sounds like the new Troy rifle will be a BCL102 but built by a company with a good track record. Apparently they bought the licensing or something so they are taking over manufacturing the rifle. Hopefully they go over it and iron out any issues and build it properly 99% of the time unlike BCL who seem to build it right about 9% of the time.

$2k is not enough to have two uppers but you could get one and then save up for your second upper.

I don't really see much point in having a 308 and a 6.5cm upper. I have NR semi autos in both those calibers and the 6.5 does everything a 308 can do and more, the only downside is the cost and availability of factory ammo in favor of the 308.
Unless you plan to shoot regularly at 800 yards or more the 308 will do everything the 6.5 will do with a few extra clicks on the elevation turret.
Neither is more accurate than the other, 6.5 is just a little flatter shooting and stays supersonic further.

Both calibers are great but owning both isn't really necessary for the average shooter.

They arent taking over manufacturing from BCL. BCL will still be making their own.

That's unfortunate, I keep hoping they either start making a consistently quality product or stop making firearms completely.
Being a Canadian manufacturer makes me want to support them but being Canadian also raises my expectations. Their mistakes are going to kill or maim someone one of these days.

Here we go again........

Many of the people against BCL have no personal experience. I own one and have had zero problems. It shoots reliably and accurately.
