IGA Coach Gun Safety

The safety on the IGA coach gun gets engaged every time the barrel is broken. This is a real PITA in a match.

I know I can take the pin out and disable the safety but, I was wondering if anyone has ever cut the rod down so that the safety would still function manually but not when the barrel is broken? It seems like it would be fine I would just like to confirm before I take a dremal to it.

Also is there any downside to putting a lighter spring on the barrel release?

Downfall would be action opening on recoil, which might smack you in the jaw depending on how you hold the gun. I'ld leave the latch spring alone personally.....
