Hi,

I have an IHC Garand with receiver serial number #5213###, bolt # 6528287-SA A15, and bbl markings: LMR D6535448 2 55 A40.

The wood seems to be surplus for sure, not a newer stock at all (good shape though) with the usual wear and tear etc. but there are no cartouches at all that I can find.

This is what I know from preliminary research on line:

1) International Harvester did not make its own barrels. Barrels to support production of their rifles were manufactured by the Line Material Company of Birmingham, Alabama. These barrels were marked LMR on the side and are among the most accurate shooting service grade barrels produced.

2) 5,213,035 to 5,217,### IHC receivers produced by HRA. End of range and total quantity unknown. 1955 – 1956?

Based on this information, this rifle was manufactured after the Korean War?? Which is a real bummer because I wanted one that was in the war....

But in any case, can any Garand Nutz please help me patch the possible history, conflicts, units, etc that this rifle could have partaken in in its life?

Thanks

From the serial# on the receiver, would fall between 1954-1956. The records of postwar production are not detailled as the ww2 production. Your M1 effectively seems a post korean war production. You might check here:

I have an IH Garand in the 4783XX. It originally came with a SA bolt and has an SA barrel. I found a IH bolt here and swapped the SA out. Trigger group is also IH as well as the stock with faint cartouche. I always assumed it was built in 54 but I may be wrong.

IHC ceased production in early 1956 with ser # 5278245, I would say the barrel is the original so could be a some time between mid to late 55 production, no way I was in Korea.

I will send you a PM.
