If you own a nickel plated firearm this might help you to partially, and I do mean partially restore the shiny appearance. Is dependant on the depth and degree of corrosion and the plating must be uniformly intact.
Do not do this with flaked off nickel plating:
In my example there was a black kind of uneven blemish
coating the plating. As if caught in a black rainstorm.
Kind of like you discharged a black powder cartridge and that cloud of burnt powder immediately fused itself to the nickel plating.
You need two polishing rags, Mother's chrome polish and Fabulustre polishing wax. This one comes in a cardboard tube. Mother's chrome polish is liquid format.
Wet a cloth about two inches square with the Mother's polish. Wet the concerned surface.
Let it sit for five minutes. Now take the rag and on a dry spot infuse it with the wax like Fabulustre. It might take a bit if effort.
Now vigorously rub that Fabulustre wax on the previously wetted surface. Like the karate kid, wax on wax off.
Be patient, be diligent. Use all wax sparingly and often check your progress.
Gauge your results afterwards. The black freckling cloud of corrosion will probably not disappear. But it will diminish it greatly dependant upon the degree of corrosion. It's kind of like knocking down trees and you always have a stump as evidence the large tree once grew there.
This works but is time and physical effort consuming.
This is not perfection but it helps to restore shine and at best it looks to me like you will have a fog like appearance on the plating.
This is the time to stop.
Edit: wear eye protection and latex gloves.
Dust mask for the wax.
