Depends alot on where and what you hunt. I find illuminated crosshairs to be handy when hunting in dense brush as the black crosshairs can sometimes get lots in the trees. They can also be helpful in lower light situations (though if you have a decent scope, light transmission is less of an issue).
Adjustable brightness should be a given.
What works good on a high powered rifle ? Well, more often than not, if you buy cheap you get cheap. There are ALOT of crappy illuminated reticle scopes around. Good scopes can be more expensive. Leupolds will be $500 and up, Nightforce will be $1000 and up, and so on. I hate crappy scopes but my budget allows for better optics.
