illuminated reticle vs non

New to this. What's the advantage to going with an illuminated reticle? Let's say both scopes would be a Nikon Black FX1000. What should i be considering here?

Would like to do some long distance shooting, (but most likely most will be shorter ranges, here is SW Ontario!)

Most never use it. I want it. If you are a hunter and use a FFP reticle then I feel it should be a feature to have for low light hunting at low magnification. SFP its not needed in my opinion.
