I'm 26 Years Old and 101 Years Late to the Party

Hope you don't.

Restore .... means that your son can never really feel the connection to his Grandfather, which are through the marks/mars of all those years of the older man's use.

I agree, restoring this piece of history will lose it's value. I stand corrected. Just clean it, and keep it as it is. Have it checked by a gunsmith, specially if you are planning to use it.

I totally agree, guys...makes total sense. I was wasn't completely set on a full restoration of the rifle, but I did contemplate it. I knew that restoring it would remove it of its "history" and I really didn't want to do that...but on that same note, it would also give it a second lease on life. However, after reading the above posts, I think that there is more merit in keeping it as is. I will definitely make sure that it gets any necessary repairs, while keeping it fully functional.

Thanks guys...
