Finally took the plunge and bought the 682 gold e x trap that I always had my eyes on.

I still wasn't sure when I walked into the store but when Bruce handed me the gun, I was a believer! The balance felt so much better than the 391 that I have, even felt lighter although it's actually about 1 lb heavier. Probably because it's got a much more compact receiver.

The gun balances right at the hinge. The adjustable monte carlo took a bit of time to figure out and fine tune, but once done, it gives a superb fit. Love the adjustable triggers, came with an extra one. And the trigger gives a very very crisp break.

The action is a bit tight though... takes a bit of effort to close it and break it open... but then again, it's brand spanking NEW!

I will report back tomorrow after I try it at the range.

One question though, the gun came with the non-extended version of optima chokes, I wonder if it'd be a better idea to install some extended ones on? That way I don't have to worry about the notches messing up the pattern.

Any advice is appreciated.

Your trap = flushed. The sporting and skeet models come with the extended.

If you want to replace them, I would recommend going aftermarket for some brileys or trulock chokes.

The price of the beretta chokes are comparable to the trulock and lower end brileys.

I will likely pickup a set of brileys the next time i am back in houston and visit their facilities and showroom.

your going to love it , I got one six months ago. Softest gun I have ever shot. The stock adjustment is all about how high you want it to shoot ,your choice.
I am shooting 96 % 16 yard singles with mine. Good luck
 
The nothches for the choke key will not do anything to your patterns. You should mike each choke and then pattern the ones you plan to use at the distances that you would shoot. One does not have to count pellets! I paint an on edge clay to see where the gun shoots and how many pellets hit my target. Remember, it takes at least 3 pellets for a reliable kill.

There is no difference in patterns with the extended chokes. They are only more convenient to remove and to ID. They also need more attention for tightness! In all my years of patterning, I NEVER have seen better patterns from aftermarket chokes versus the Beretta ones. There have been many differences with other makes, though!

Congratulations on your new 682 Gold Ex - good choice!

If you are to shoot mostly trap I would stay with the factory flush berretta chokes. I could find no improvement by using aftermarket chokes. Besides, extended ones do not add anything either... except of a new habit to tighten them up by hand in-between posts which is another element you do not need to add to your pre-shot routine.

Shoot it just the way it is ... aftermarket chokes add nothing.

The "notches" on the internal choke tubes DO NOT interfere with your pattern.

Save your $$$ and buy more ammo ! After you've gone through say, 20 flats, drop us a note to tell us how you think it shoots !

A little good quality gun grease on the hinge pin and related action bearing surfaces will help.
 
O i wasn't gonna buy any aftermarket chokes, just that I have the extended optima chokes that came with the 391 gold sporting. I guess I won't have to bother switching them over then.

yeah i knew it was Italian as soon as i saw Bruces name.

i just gotta say that any questions you got concerning that gun, chokes patterning etc just ask Bruce. he is a walking encyclopedia of information and a real gentleman to deal with.

just had to put in a plug for the best retail firearms service person i have ever dealt with.
