I'm about to incur the rath of numerous CGN'ers...

While we're being sacreligious, and not to hijack the thread, but I've been issued an FN (part time) and owned one before they were safe queens. Has anyone ever tried to go through a door under pressure with one? How about multiple targets between 25 and 200 yards under time? Bluntly, no fun. I still love them and if I could I would buy another, but they are far from ideal.

Angus,

Sorry to hear about your difficulties with the PE-90:( ...the only solution I can see is for you to ship yours to me right away! I'll even send along one of my AR-15s kicking around in my safe in return!:D

As a right hand shooter, I really haven't had to "notice" problems "Lefties" will have with the rifles. My classic Green and CQB are just about my favorite rifles I own. I was a little wary of "Plastic" magazines before using the first one, but I've come around. Being able to lock extra mags together makes the SIG/Swiss Arms system very convenient, moreso than the AR system.

I really don't have a problem rocking mags into place, have had to do it with the M-14 for years. Gravity drop mag system isn't high on my list of priorities since there's no way I'm going to drop a $70.00 magazine onto concrete or rocks at the range and when hunting, quick mag changes really aren't an issue unless you're hunting seals!:D

I don't shoot really heavy for caliber .224 bullets, pretty much stick with the 50 & 55gr V-Max or ball so faster barrel twist rates isn't an issue.

My only beef is the need for a brass deflector. Having the paint chipped off your $3200.00 rifle by ejected brass isn't fun for guys who are meticulous about their guns as I am. Don't like to do it, but I use tape or stick on velcro to protect my paint.

That said, I have to say I love both the SIG and AR platforms. Both have high "look cool factors", both are proven systems, in terms of quality and robustness, I think the nod has to go to the SIG, however, the modularity of the AR platform probably makes for a more useful, all-around, rifle system. The sheer amount of accessories, uppers, different barrel configuartions and relatively cheap magazines are certainly to its credit. However, in Canada, you also have that pesky problem of being RESTRICTED. That sure puts a crimp in things.

I love my SIG/Swiss Arms rifles, but I'm also in the process of building another AR-15...so you don't have to choose between the two, you can own the best of both worlds instead!;)

I have an AR and a bluestar and although the bluestar is great the tuned up AR still wins for service rifle shoots. I've even changed the bluestar to a 1:7 twist barrel but the AR still edges it out for accuracy thought not by much. The bluestar beats the are for reliablity and the charging handle is better, but the AR safety is better.

I agree 100% Sean, the SIG's certainly a very high quality item, just not quite perfect I find... And you're also right, it's too bad the AR's restricted... :(

HeadDamage,

Look what you have started. You realy got out the big stir stick to stir the pot on this one, ha ha.

Having owned and now been issued both AR and Swiss Arms weapon's systems I have to give the nod to the Swiss Arms. Better gas system / keeps the all critical working parts cleaner, all steel construction / little more solid (weight trade off which is a concern) and when inserting mags there is no question that they are seated. The AR mags can be changed a little faster but good solid training can overcome the disadvantages of both systems. I also believe that the feeding is better with the bolt/feed ramp system of the Swiss Arms weapon. Some of the literature that we received at work from Federal Ammo actually states that "Their new Tactical Load's are specialy designed to feed and function in AR 15 type weapons" (makes you wonder).

As much as it "pains" me to say this, the Swiss Arms is like an accurate precision AK. If one takes a look at conflicts around the world it is amazing to see the AK's that have been used and abused as well as been to hell and back and are still shooting. I'm not sure that the AR system could stand up to that kind of abuse, over a number of years and keep on ticking. I don't realy like AK's that much (damm commie weapon) and I do realy like AR's. I just think that the Swiss Arms guns are a little better/more solid/will last a little longer.

Just my 2 cents,

Rich.

I stated in my first post, if shooting just ball the twist is ideal, but many of us like to shoot 75gr pills for competition etc. Pretty clear to me ;) The 75gr .223 approximates match .308 loads, but with far less recoil, and without going to an AR-10 or M14 etc.

I totally missed that! Oh well, thats what happens when you reply to stuff first thing in the day. I just use mine for varmints, we don't have service rifle matches or even normal rifle matches here in southern Sask.

It works terrific in -20 and colder ... love the folding trigger guard as I can shoot with gloves on if it's too damn cold.(but i don't) I don't mind the chipped paint part as then you know she's used well. Love the take-apart with your hands deal to clean ... I love my BlueStar ... just wish the paint wasn't blue ... ;) however for the price I paid I won't complain ...

About the only thing's I don't like is that it's too long and very front heavy, so I got a 551LB, problem solved.

Then the gassystem is truly a ##### to clean, but then I rarely clean my issued rifle.

The AK-style mag release doesn't bother me at all, but then when I get the chance to shoot AR's I have troubles getting used to the AR mag release.
As it's been said before: in combat you'd have a buddy to cover you anyway and we're instructed to stuff the empty mag into our BDU, so after all I guess a magchange isn't really slower then with the AR.

Safety selector works just fine for me, don't see any problem there. On my issued rifle it is a bit difficult to set to "20", but then how often do you get to use that? To use the "3 rd burst" is a piece of cake

Well, as you know, I could get you a smurf special for about 2'000, but that wouldn't help you much as you are on the wrong side of the big water :D

Wouldn't help much. Importing them would be impossible.

Prices are lower over here, that's true. Got a brandnew 551LB for 2'200.-.
The official price is the same as in Canada, but you'll find them cheaper, if you look around. Used rifles go a lot cheaper though. Used PE90's go for as much as 1'600.-

well I would put it like this.....

I have shot them all and for me....

The AR is king....everything is where I want it
