I'm confused...for once I'm satisfied with the hunting cartridges I own!?!?!

I'm in a scary place and it is a foreign feeling to me...but right now I have no desire to buy a gun in a different chambering that I do not own. Ever since I have owned guns, which admittedly is not near as long as some on this forum, I have always looked to the next gun before the current one even arrived. But after owning and selling a great deal of guns that I wasn't satisfied for one reason or another I have settled into 4 cartridges that I'm actually happy with. My HUNTING rifles now consist of 223, 6mm Rem, 270 and 300 win mag...And I finally believe that suits my needs. It's such a strange feeling, I always thought that this void in me would be fulfilled when I filled my needs, but now I am left with this confused feeling of not knowing what I should do next. I guess this is the perfect time to get my restricted licence, cause it wouldn't make any sense if my money actually made it to my savings account instead of being spent on guns...Anyone ever reach this place and have this kind of crisis?
Now I of course I can always change the exact firearms that I have in these chamberings, but even those I'm pretty happy with. And I could upgrade all my scopes, but again I'm pretty happy with them too...And there is that thought in the back of my mind that although a 300 win mag will handle anything I will EVER hunt, it would be nice to have a safari rifle in something no smaller than a 375 H&H, but that's not really a nagging priority for me, just a last case scenario if I can't find anything else to spend my money on. i wonder if there's a support group I can go to...

Welcome to your happy place!

I can say I'm pretty satisfied with the calibers I'm shooting now as well: .22 Hornet, .243, 7mm-08 and 30-06. Those will do everything I want.. Even got a 6.5x54 for Christmas to cover the 'cool factor'!
I did upgrade the scope on my main hunting rig though, then played musical scopes with 2 others so that the Hornet now sports a 3-9 and the M8-3X finding it's way onto the Mannlicher.

StevieK.... We fellow CGNers are your support group ! Speaking for myself I totally support your feeling that you should have a 375 H&H. ( LOL )
I've been in your shoes countless times. It seems like whenever I feel that there is nothing interesting out there.... Bingo.... another cartridge / rifle combination I've never tried comes along.
My latest toy, a Remington 600 in 6.5 Rem. Mag. is a real hoot and an insane tackdriver, this after all I have read about the cartridge being a dud !
So, yes you just never know what you'll find next time you open a gunshop door.... or maybe next time you surf the EE right here....

Im in the same boat myself. I just bought a std bolt face (.473) long action remington action the other day and I have no idea what to do with it.

Thats great that you feel good about your choices, I find that having confidence in your equipment makes hunting a more enjoyable experience.

I have the .22, 22mag, 22-250, 308 & 300wsm....great for all my hunting needs....so from there you turn to the fun stuff, they'll keep you plenty broke! If you get bored with those, start building long range stuff ( if you have money left over). How about collecting mil surps....it never really has to end.

I'm down to .243, .308 (x2), .30-06

I'm often tempted to acquire a 6.5mmx55, or a .25-06 ... but, with a .243 and .308, do I really need an 'in-betweener' ?

Speaking about inbetweeners ..
Wish I still had one of the 7mm-08's that I sold. *sigh*
There is just something about 7mm's

Yeah, I am in a similar situation. I shed all the boutique calibres and I am now happily left with the tried and true old stand-bys: 30-06, 308 Win, 7x57 (x2), 7.62x39 (x6) (btw, Prvi 123 grain SP's make excellent deer rounds!), 22 LR (x2), and 12 gauge.

Just for sh!ts 'n giggles, I bought an antique revolver chambered in the odd-ball 7.5x23R (7.5mm Swiss Ordnance). It actually fires an 8mm or .315 bullet, so I am not sure where the 7.5 comes from! It just so happens to be one of the most accurate little pistols I have ever fired, so this atypical calibre stays. I need to find dies :)

And yes, you NEED 7x57 ;)

I am currently looking for a nice old lever chambered in 32-20.

Yeah, I'm good with what I have - 22, 22WMR, 223, & 308, and for shotguns too - 20 & 12 SxS's plus 12 ga. pump with 3 barrels, including rifled scoped deer barrel. No grizzlies or elephants around here, so good-to-go.......:)

I'm okay with that good choices

It will pass trust me, I thought that same thing a few times but have since purged a few times. Its more like remission your in now, eventually it will come back and usually worse than it was before.

It comes and goes with me. here in NB you need a .224 or smaller for varmint.
.22-250 ( varmint )
.7mm-08 ( kids deer / bear gun)..and .284 bullets
.7mm rem mag ( Moose , deer , bear ) .284 bullets

For reloading it is nice only having to buy .284 bullets for the DBM ( deer , bear, moose) guns

in addition I have 12 Ga and .22 lr

I like to stick with12 ga, .22, & 308 for my hunting purposes. Around here I can't see that I need anything else. The rest of my stuff is assorted toys for the range.

Personally I think anyone who lives in Canada - "The GREAT White North" - and doesn't have a .375H&H is delusional .... and exposing himself and his loved ones to great personal risk!! I am in the GTA and can assure you that the threat of a stray polar bear wandering down my street is VERY real. They are fast, savage and big buggers!! That is reason enough for me - and any sane person - to add a .375H&H to their home arsenal!!

I've got three sitting out in the shop trying to decide whether there is a need for them.
Once I find my deal on a 20 gauge in either an A-5 or BPS, I think I'm good to go.
Then to eenie, meemie, meyenie moe me 22's.

I gots me .22 LR fer squirrels an such.
I gots me .22 WMR fer them bigger varmints an them stupid yotes.
I gots me 6.5x55 fer them smarter yotes an fer long range plinkin.
I gots me Turdy aught Six fer jest bout anything I ken stuff in the freezer.
an I gots me 9.3x62 Sako Black Bear fer pushin the bush an purdy much anything I might find there.:)
