Mounting a fairly high end Leupold to my CZ 527. I have installed rings, and have also lapped and de burred the ring edges. Is there anything else I should do to prevent the dreded ring marks ?

That will usually do it. How much coverage does the lapping have? Around 80% should do it. Make sure you thoroughly clean the rings of any lapping compound. Just one left over grain will ruin your day!

What material are your rings made of? Most likely steel. Now you have to find a way to prevent rust. Last set of rings I lapped were Leupold rings. This was a hunting rifle and some moisture got to the rings. They rusted and the rust stained the finish on the scope. You wouldn't know this was happening unless you took the scope out of the rings. I was able to clean it all up but this is why I don't lap rings anymore. NEAR rail and ATRS rings combo requires no lapping, this is now what I use.

If I were to have a setup that required lapping again, I'd make sure I would be using stainless or aluminium rings.

Thanks for the reply. I am going to put a dab of fluid film on the ring surfaces. On a side note, my Leupold instructions sat 28 inch pounds for ring torque. Everywhere on the net, the max seems to be 15-20...?

I don't know what kind of rings you're using, but 28 in/lb sounds more suitable for the receiver mounting screws. Scope ring screws should be closer to 20 in/lb.

I agree, re read the Leupold instructions twice, still said 28.....I however installed them at 18.
