lately going by the gun stores and looking at the new iron just makes me pass by.i recently bought some older guns from our ee and cant wait till they arrive. thinking of .308 for our smaller ontario moose in a sako l57.most bull moose we get weight between 450- 500 lbs with head , hide and inards removed at the butcher.so i think the 308 with a good bullet should be good. and for deer this year i picked up a savage 1899 in 25-35.will post picks when rifles arrive and hopefully with the venison that they harvest.cheers and have a great season

Plenty of time yet to get well acquainted with your new to you rifles before seasons start. Can't wait to see if I win my draws and then get to decide which rifle's to use and where.Last year was a real flop(first season) but I have high hopes for this fall and know with but the smallest amount of effort I can bag at least one deer be it buck or doe.Good luck to all as well.

I have preferred to liking old eyerun for many days/years as a matter of fact.
Something to be said for the old world craftsmanship them old trades had and
the pride they put into what their hands could do.

I'm in this cheering section too. Many of my favorite firearms designs were well into existence by 1940'ish:

S&W Heavy Duty revolver, .22 LR Mauser training rifle, Winchester 30-30 levergun, Ithaca M37 shotgun, M1 Garand rifle, Mauser K-98.
