I'm looking for a rifle scope but I dunno what to buy...

Which scope is the best for my needs ??? Plz read OP !!!

Hi guys,

I have a sporterized swedish mauser in 6.5x55.
I will use it for deer and long range varmint hunting + it will be my spare target rifle.

- My budget for the scope only is between 400$ and 700$ NEW or USED
- Must be a 30mm tube
- I don't need more than 16X magnification
- The scope must have side focus
- I would like to have target turrets
- Must be an all-weather rifle scope cauz I will use it during winter and rainy days

I know you have what you pay for... I already have a NF NXS on my 308 and I really like it but I can't afford to buy another NF... But I'm sure I can find a decent scope in that price range, especially if its used.

The bushnell elite tactical or the 6500. They are two different families of scopes.
I have Elite tactical scopes on all my guns. Good value for money, you should be able to find one in your price range. The 6500 has a x6 magnification factor as opposed to the x4 found in the elite tactical. I have heard more complaints about the 6500 family.

Which model / series ??? I heard good things about those scopes...

I found this model : SIGHTRON SII BIG SKY 4.5-14X44MM w/side focus... it has one inch tube but still have 80 moa of elevation wich is damn good for a one inch scope, but that's my opinion...
And it fit in my budget... Even the SIII is in my bracket on 4scopes.com... with a 30mm tube

The Bushnell biggest downside is, IMO the amount of elevation adjustment...
Sightron 80 MOA for 1 inch tube and 120 MOA for 30mm tube is hard to beat for the price, at least I think !!!

Honestly I will have to spend more time to compare those models...

If you can tell me exactly which models you have tried, there's so much variations... So I can compare apples with apples !!!
 
Your asking that scope to cover an extremely broad range of duties from shooting deer at 30 ft to coyotes at 400 yds., to driving tacks at the target range. And in "ALL" weather conditions.
With the high magnification's your speaking of you best practice shooting deer from the hip out to at least 75yds because you will not find them in the scope under that. Your asking this scope at various times to do work it was never designed for.

In my humble opinion and experience the Bushnell scopes are not worth the box they come in. They are a very popular scope not because of there quality but because of Bushnell's great abilities in marketing and distribution. Like previously stated there on sale everywhere and the price is generally cheap, and the box of better quality than it's contents.
As my neighbour down the road has proven you can sell sh!!t in a bag at the side of road if you price it right. As he makes alot of spare cash doing just that.

Take a close look the new Redfields, Vortex, Leupold to name a few of the ones I have personel experience with. Optics has come along way in recent years. But good glass does not make up for a poorly made scope. "Especially true with your demands of dependablity in all weather conditions."
Generally speaking when it comes to optics dependability you get what you pay for.

I've found the elite tacticals to be very good.

That's why I want something like 2.5-16X or 4-14X

I will use this rifle for :
70% long range varmint hunting
25% deer hunting
5% target shooting

You will do well with a Bushnell, and there is not much out there that will give you a combination of value, quality and excellent glass. You can easily find a Bushnell Elite in your price range. Look through them all and decide. I have had several Bushnell Elite's (tactical and others), I own a Bushnell ET 4305, a Sightron SIII 6-24x, and a Trijicon. Redfield and Millet have terrible glass, Leopolds are nice, but the glass can be sketchy in the the lower end. Vortex are very nice and great value as well. Have fun shopping.

My 4 x 16 x 40mm Bushnell Elite is great. Clearer at long distances than my father-in-laws Leupold worth almost twice as much. But this is my opinion. Best thing I think you can do is narrow down your list, then go try to find some where that sells the scopes and look for yourself. Because on here you can ask your question and get 20 different answers - and they're all right. Best to choose what you like.

Yes, love the Sightron. Very good quality, excellent glass. I have the SIII 6-24x50 LRMD. Mildot reticle with MOA adjustments. It tracks amazing, great feel in the adjustment of the turrets, lots of elevation available. I also run a 20 MOA rail under it. The only drawback is the lettering on the dials was in a copper colour that was hard to read, I solved that with some white acrylic paint, a little varsol and some patience.

I don't understand why some manufacturers use colour other than white... weird
