Im new to the AR-15 how often should i clean the gas tube and how?

Agreed - you don't clean the tube itself, you clean the bolt group and carrier, and make sure the locking lugs at the rear of the chamber remain crud-free... but you don't run a pipecleaner through the gas tube as part of any normal maintenance.

Frankly, if it goes to hell, you just replace the tube - or so I've been told, since mine has always hummed along just fine.

Oh, oh... I'd better clean my gas tube... or my #### will fall off...

Seriously now... I just give it a blast of brake cleaner (Kleen Flo or other Ukrainian Tire cleaner) while I happen to degrease my bolt carrier/bolt assembly once a year!

Enjoy the addiction; come on out to our Service CQB matches! :D

Gas tubes clean themselves while they last.

As soon as there's too much carbon build up, scraping that crap sets you up for a better chance for an obstruction.

Rip and Replace. Too easy and cheaper than your time and products cleaning it. Don't oil it either.
