Yesterday I picked up the mail and there was a Savage Model 12 F in 6br (1-8 twist) waiting for me to haul home. It has a Ken Farrell 20 MOA base, TPS (HRT) rings and a Sightron SIII 10-50x60 target dot scope. Although I realize my meager skills will show through shooting this rifle, I'm looking forward to trying it out at 500-600 yards. I'll post some target pics when I get out.

Dry fire the rifle for a while to get used to the trigger prior to shooting. Focus the scope until the reticle is sharp, focus the parallax until the image is sharp. The combination sounds like a winner, and you should be pleased with the results. Don't be intimidated by wind or mirage, shooting in challenging conditions makes you a better shooter. By the way, your investment has elevated you beyond the "wanna be" class. Enjoy.

sounds like youve got yourself a great set up! as boomer said, Focus the scope until the reticle is sharp, focus the parallax until the image is sharp. then check by wiggling your head around slightly while looking threw the scope , the x-hairs shouldnt move around, if they do, adjust the ocular focus a bit , then readjust till the image is sharp again, wiggle head, it might take a few tries but once you have it right, every thing will be super crisp, and there will be no x-hair movment

congrats on the new rifle.

i got a savage 12 F-TR .223 this spring and I love it, the only thing i wish it had was an adjustable stock like the 12 Palma has.

the F-TR has those plastic cheek risers but they are not ideal

i am new to precision shooting, and i can shoot betwen 1/2 and 1/3 MOA with this rifle at 200m

hope you enjoy your new savage

Great choice. I also have an F-class in 6br 1in8" twist. Farrell base and rings. With a Sightron SIII 8-32 scope.

Mine is a great shooter.

Watch the front screw on the base. It will likely bottom out on the barrel threads. Make sure you trim it slightly.

My load is 30.1 gr of varget behind a 105gr lapua scenar with a CCI 450 primer. Lapua blue box brass. 0.005 into the lands.

My girlfriend is shooting 30.2 gr of varget behind a 105gr scenar with a CCI BR4 primer. Blue box brass also. 0.005 into the lands.

Were both running Redding type S Match full length die sets with .266 bushings. (gives us about 0.001" of neck tension) Were also using Reddings Competition shell holder sets to control shoulder bump.

Both of us are going to try 2 thou of neck tension next.

Sorry for no velocity's. I shot my crony.

Have fun with your rifle.
