Ive ordered a new set of sights for my 226. Im going to replace them myself however I cant find a sight pusher locally and thought Id do the brass punch method.

My question is, looking at the gun as if I where going to shoot it, does it matter if I remove the sights right - left ...left-right or does it matter.

Thanx,

Quote from the Armorers Manual...
"Install and remove SIG sights from the left side of the slide, due to a chafered edge machined on the right corners of the sight bases to aid in the ease of sight installation."
If you remove to the right you will ruin the sight channel and your sights won't fit properly or line up, which will make your slide ####ty and accuracy non-existent.

fake edit - I have used the brass punch method to straighten out my 226 rear sight which was slightly off to the right. Make sure you have something under the table and the slide, or maybe you want to vice it. The brass punch WILL mark the side of the sights if you are not carefull. Makesure you are holding the punch down with some force on the sights to prevent it from slipping when you hit it with the hammer. PS. Take your time.

What sights did you order? I want to get some 3 Dot Mepros.

"...cant find a sight pusher..." They're horrendously expensive for some reason. Use a padded vise(thick leather), your punch and a plastic mallet. Be very careful where you put the punch. You may want to put a tiny piece of leather between the punch and the sight too. You don't want to bash the slide and damage the finish.

Don't use a plastic hammer on a punch, that defeats the purpose of the hammer action. Use a metal (steel ball peen or brass) hammer on the punch. Use a punch (preferably) with a delrin face or brass.

I use wood blocking that I'll slot to hold the slide firm on edge.
