I'm sold on pre-priming with the Lee 1000

Recently I set up a decapping station and started hand priming my Federal primers. I was just going to do this for the softer Federal primers but now I am going to do it for all my reloads.

I learned to run the priming system on the 1000 smoothly but I find it's much more of a pleasure running the press with the decapping pin up and the primer tray empty.

Last night I pumped out 500 rounds in under an hour. Just much more of a pleasure doing the priming by hand.

It doesn't take long to run the brass through a decapping station and then hand prime them, especially with the new Lee Auto-Prime XR. Just a pleasure!

This is exactly how I loaded .308 Win on my Lee Loadmaster and found it much easier. I do load .45 ACP all in one shot on it though, decap, size/prime, bell/charge, seat, crimp.

After my first primer detonation with my Pro1000 about 25yrs ago(Federal primers), I have hand primed ever since. I now prefer it even tho it is a stage on the progressive, as you can ensure ALL cases are primed, no inverted primers and no powder spillage. I also ensure every primer is seated properly. Like u mentioned, once u find your rythm you can crank them out very quickly. My old Pro1000 owes me nothing as it has cranked out over 300k rounds in various calibers with only worn parts to replace.
