Imperial sizing wax

Have heard that " imperial sizing wax " is one of the best products to use for lubeing cases for sizeing and for any serious case forming applications one may have in necking up/down, transforming one case to another etc......


For all that have used it:
Question #1..........Is it really that good.......does it perform better than the other lubes you've tried before.

Question #2...........what does it cost and how much of the product do you get for that price........

Question #3..........would you care to know about a product that is readily available that may be just as good and cheap too........available anywhere in Canada....................(if this has been discussed before I'll just let the other posters answer question #3 as I'm new to the Nutz)

1) yes IMHO

2) cheap and the little tin lasts forever.

3) Why do I get the feeling you want to tell us about vacumm cleaners?
 
I think I paid about $5 to $10 for my little tin about a year or two ago and its still going strong. I've had it for long enough to not remember exactly how much I paid anyway.

What is cheaper than that?

On the Imperial sizing wax issue, this is great stuff, I've used it for decades, and a small tin lasts a looonnnnggg time. Regards, Eagleye.
 
I've had a small tin for a few years now, don't need much and it works better than any other lube I've ever used. I still have about the tin left and as I can't recall where I got it I'll have to inquire about an out let in Canada. P&d in Edmonton will be one of my checks the next time I'm there, or is anyone aware of an outlet out west somewhere?
 
First of all thanx for the response from those that use this sizing wax.....

"Can Am" states he has had good success with lanolin.....
I've queried numerous reloaders over the years as to what they've used for resizing brass instead of the usual "commercial" products specifically designed/ sold as case lube.........to see if they had something that " That works for them".

............Lanolin ranked top as the best alternative.......can get it at any drug store and you can order it in by weight.....I believe under $20/16 ozs. was quoted ,.....and would guess that would last even the most prolific reloader over 10 years as it too is used in very small amounts at a time.

Other runner-ups were........vaseline petrolium jelly.........carnuba auto waxes....STP engine oil additives.........automatic trans. fluid......and of course any bees wax worked in a pinch as did beef tallow and other such animal fats.................In short any thing that was slippery was tried from limited to good success in each usage............no doubt many have tried some of the this list and have some of you own creations which you found to work also......

Imperial sizing wax to me, smells like....looks like.......feels like/has same consistancy as Neutral KIWI shoe polish......

Shoe polish has lanolin in it.....carnuba wax....depending on the manufacturer it may also contain some animal fat in it....has hydrocarbons (petrolium jelly) and may contain paraffin wax too. .......no doubt it contains some form of unspecified binding agent also.

......purchased a tin of neutral Kiwi...........put on a pair of surgical type gloves........added a very small amount to thumb and finger and applied same spareingly......resized several hundred rifle cases with nary a glitch.....was smoother than my commercial lubes by far....And I am still useing it by choice.

Lubed and sized 100 .223 cases and ran them through .222 sizer prior to neck trimming same.......I usually get a fair amount of lube-dents with reg. case lube but not one dented case using Kiwi.......

Cases become quite " polished " when you either wipe them down by rag or return to tumbler media for a few minutes........ Yeah put the lid back on after your finished ,it is after all shoe polish and you want it to stay soft.

Never really did find out what Imp. Sizing wax costs and where you can get it locally ........and the Imp. wax tin is suspiciouly the same size as Kiwi..


Gentleman....as usual........if this product offends you or you think it's unsafe don't use it............but it works for me

A small Kiwi can is a lot bigger than even the large Imperial Sizing Wax and since I bought a large Imperial over a year ago I should be good for quite a few more years. I used to use the neutral Kiwi for spit shining boots, why are you wearing surgical gloves to use it? Did you check out the MSDS sheet and is it that dangerous, remember if it doesn't kill you it only makes you stronger.

you have me at a disadvantage............have no idea what a MSDS sheet is............do I need to know....will there be a test?

I use a surgical glove on my left hand when reloading cases to avoid getting lube all over it..........they are cheap.......disposable........and you still retain dexterity......
I have no idea of what the total ingredients are of kiwi....Imp. wax ...rcbs....hornady lubes ..etc. as i dont recall them being listed on packaging... so the glove keeps it off my skin.

Thank you for sharing that you use Kiwi shoe polish on your boots to actually polish boots, as I believe that was Kiwis' original intention........

HS4570: Cool idea, thanx for sharing it, tho' you introduction did sound a bit like a sales pitch.
MSDS= Material Safety Data Sheet(s). Basically it gives you all the safety concerns about the material. Toxilogical, combustability, enviromental considerations in the event of a spill, etc.
If you ever buy anything at a place that specializes in supplying industrial clients, like Aklands/Granger or Aire Liquide, ask for the MSDS for whatever you buy. It can be quite an eye opener, and they are supplied free. So if you buy a can of spray paint or brake cleaner, when you go to the front to pay just tell them you need the MSDS.

Yeah........the way I formated the initial thread post was to make viewers feel there was possibly some "salesmanship" being involved.........some people feel that "if it's not expensive " they dont' want it or it cant' possibly be of any value......

Merely wanted to "Sell' an "idea" , one that may have merit to reloaders.....is cheap......available in nearly every city ...town..rural /isolated community in Canada..........not saying its as good as imp. wax (to all its users) but its better than "regular" case lubes i've used......

If any of you try it......and it works for you , pm me............if you find its of no value ,by all means post it for all to view..........

Nope....don't own any shares in Kiwi........
