not sure about a tax, but it does have legal paperwork/permits required to bring a scope to Canada from my understanding.
likely 5% gst and 3.5% duty. you need papers to get out of the US. IIC is a good idea.
I just won a bid on Ebay for a Burris scope, I hope it doesn't cost me an arm & a leg to get it here!!
Someone have experience about these transactions?
if its coming from the US and it falls under the US export restriction you will need to file for an IIC ( import permit) from the Canadian government then you need to file a DSP-5 with the US government, a DSP-83 if applicable and if i remember correctly a non refundable 250 dollars for the first item to get the paper work going then your looking at a 3-12 month wait, also the seller in the us must posses a valid export permit ( they just raised the price on these again i think they are around 2k or more now )

i have got lots of scopes from the us. never had one get stuck in customs . never had import permit.
I thought you needed export papers to get it out of the states, and import papers to get it into canada (legally)
You don't necessarily need a Canadian import permit to import it here, but you need the Canadian import permit to get the U.S. export permit to legally get it out of the U.S.
I have bought 3 scopes in the last year from the states, nobody ever told me about any permit required, where can I find more information about this?
