So like the title states, I have an HK SL7, and you know what Im a bit of a masochist, Would one be able to import a demilled/ parted up g3 with all the illegal bits not present, and have it shipped across without CBSA wanting to finger my hole ?

Do I get to attempt to make the biggest cope of cope guns ever ??

It's not impossible. You're not planning to bastardize a lovely SL7 though, are you?

The actual receiver of an SL7 is very small, literally just a set of rails for the BCG to slide around on and the trigger mech, Id like to see if I could try and rig up a drop in chassis if possible

I spit my drink out regarding the fingering part.

Import the parts kit from the US? Going to be ITAR controlled.
Do you have an exporter prepared to supply a kit? Before the exporter can get the necessary US paperwork, he will probably need the Canadian import certificate.

Very interesting, what are you planning to use from the parts kit?

I am guessing that you will use the SL7 trigger and magazine, so are you planning on just using the furniture and parts of the stamped steel receiver flat?

If it’s just playing dress up, then I’d suggest maybe looking at airsoft. I think LSC makes a good airsoft G3 that uses decent materials.

Also, please document and post your build for the rest of us! :)

I agree with B-wing but I think he means LCT. Their rifle is true to real dimensions so factory surplus will swap right out with airsoft. Uses a full steel receiver as well.

$600+ canadian if you can find one

Im honestly not 100% sure, it seems like it could be a horribly painful project down the line. Id like to just get stuff in hand, start measuring and see what I could try and do. would also be neat to try and have a modern sporting rifle set up for a roller gun here in Canada...while waiting for those CETME As (fingers crossed)

Demilled receiver is a no-go as it can’t be recognized as deactivated until it’s here. The rest can probably be done relatively easily. The trigger group isn’t prohibited but maybe not worth bothering with as it might raise questions about your intent.

The US side has gotten weird lately with importing parts that can go on auto guns - I was not able to get PPSh or MG-34 parts for a semi auto build in :/ It might work but if you are oing to be using an importer make sure you have an exit strategy - will they refund you the fee if it doesn't work? Do you have a way to resell the parts kit? Get that in writing (and they might still leave you hanging).

Disregarding the import issue, I don't think this will be a successful project technically. Other than that the SL7 uses delayed roller system like the G3, it has nothing in common with the G3. It is not like the Saiga / Valmet, they actually use a modified receiver.

You may be to able saw off the wood stock here and there, and then bolt on the plastic stuff, but it won't work ergonomically.

Looking at the HK Sl7 receiver and the HK91 receiver, there is no way to bolt on the HK91 trigger group to the SL7 without some major wielding, and even after that, it may not work due to different internal dimension

Word of warning. I went through irunguns, prophet river, and ###### armoury to inport a galil parts kit to convert a valmet i to a galil clone... It seems CBSA is recognizing prohib rifle parts (without receiver of course) as inaccessible into Canada and all 3 companies denied the request after deliberation... I have also talkes to guys who (post-oic) bought the mini-14 folding stock newly designes to look like the A-Team version and the STOCK alone was simply denied and returned to Brownells. AR15 parts too as has been commonly reported by members although they have many cross platform capabilities. In my opinion your best best bet is to call the cbsa and ask for all the documentation yoy need and drive it ovsr and declare it .

Thats so bizarre because I managed to get a full GALIL ARM kit in fron the states with 0 issues a year ago (summer 2020) when I was doing up my Valmet...

I am interested too. irunguns initiall said the import would be ok... then a month later they told me they would be unable to fulfill the order. The armoury held my money for 2 month before saying they couldnt ship one with a receiver although I specifically requested them to not include the receiver which was plasma cut to pieces anyway.

I think it depends on whether the kit is made from full-auto parts or if they can convince the dept of commerce that it's originally semi... I had a ppsh and a mg-34 kits that IRG said they could import then suddenly couldn't (no refunds - so 'buyer beware') - this was late spring 2020 as well.
