Does anyone have any experience with importing a HG from the US to Canada. I realize that it needs to conform to Canadian specs (ie. barrel length, etc). I am looking for real world experience and any advice. And how long is the total process? My uncle has a few that he would like to pass on to me (Nickle plated 45 and a few others). Thanks!

Takes about 8 weeks to get paperwork in order. Did mine through Buffalo Gun Centre, picked up at customs in Niagara Falls with STATT of course.

I had great service from Irunguns. Very simple - they take care of the paperwork, permits, etc. My gun took about four months, but the RCMP had to assign an FRT. If the gun is already classified it would be considerably less.

my dad just got one from irunguns
it was one that was already cleared, so he picked it up and had it in hand in under 6 weeks.
i believe he said they import once a month.

Check out irunguns.ca they can bring it in for you, for a fee.

There is also irunguns.com, the American sight. I can't say for pistols but I ordered a restricted rifle off their site, at two thirds the price it would have been in Canada. The only problem was the wait time (about two months), but there are plenty of options for handguns on the .com site, just make sure barrel length/magazine capacity conform to Canadian standards. And Prophet River charges for each item they import, whereas with IRunGuns it's just in US dollars and you pay the shipping.

True, but the OP is talking about having a gun imported that is privately owned in the U.S. In that case irunguns still charges an importation fee.

Thanks for the input guys. I have contacted irun and will give you guys an updated post on exact time from start to finished once i have initiated the process (probably in the new year).

I brought in a gun I bought on Gunbroker through Irunguns. They have a FFL in the States that the gun is shipped to. Then they do all the paperwork. I had the gun in one month. It was a restricted revolver, but it was very easy and smooth.
