A short time back DeMented posted a thread on pinned AR mags.
This is not a "gloat" thread , but I can confirm that the CFC, RCMP and CBSA are all now on the same page as to how the Criminal Code is to be interpreted in respect to pinned magazines that are imported.
I just had several thousand dollars worth of hi cap mags seized at the border by Canada Customs, despite the fact they were covered by both a Canadian Import Certificate and US State Dept export permit AND the fact that my firearms license clearly states I am allowed to have any firearm, prohibited device etc.
Long story short here , it took 4 days of phone calls to the CFO , CFR, RCMP and CBSA, to get evryone to agree, but the definitive answer to the question of whether rivets in the spine of a hi cap mag make it legal to import is YES it IS.
I too now have the same back up and more than what DeMented has come up with.
In fact my permits allow for the importation of hi caps without the pinning according to the CFO CFR and now CBSA.
Again not to gloat, but it is nice that at least in this 1 time to be wholly backed up by the CFC and RCMP on a gun related import issue.
Permits are required to import, but they are attainable.
