Evening every one...........

Well this thread will be a long one no doubt because I finally made up my mind for the never ending hunt for semi decent surplus ammo, that we all CGN-ers can enjoy.

Let that be local and / or with shipping to your door, we need a supply - Or at least I need one heh!

How do those companies like wolverine and lever arms reliable guns < just to name a few acquire their ammo?!
I assume they import it form the states or locate them out of America and import them?

I can also imagine their profit margin is next to nothing..........

What if one was to invest a ridiculous amount of cash into ammo in flavors that are always wanted and needed like surplus - Since realistically we don't all own BIG bore ammo and we don't all own 2500$ rifles that need exotic hot rounds......

I am certain price drops significantly when you negotiate with a supplier either a blanket on going order for ammo or you purchase a very large lot in one go to satisfy customers ( like a gun store or similar )

So I was reading the above sticky that 5000 rounds can be imported with out any fees or permits?!
I am really new on this subject so please guys throw any thing at me you can, Of course 5000 rounds is not what I had in mind..........significantly more actually.

Which leads me to legality?
Can you own and storage crates and crates of ammo and or resell them to the public?
I mean I own crates of ammo and do on occasion sell to some friends......But there is a line between 2 crates of 1000 - or 250 crates of 1000.

So any information on this topic is greatly appreciated........I am all ears at this point in time.

I am really only out to help the lot of us Canadian shooters and enjoy this hobby and sport for a long time to come!

Thanks every one!

hmmm. I have brought a question like this up before.
I am sure CanAm will pipe in. The ammo you, me and lots of people need is out there, getting it here....in a reasonable amount of time and without it costing more than $1 each for .308 FMJ is the challenge.
I believe the importers you mentioned and others have ridiculous amounts of money already tied up in Ammunition orders and containers *in Transit*.

Throwing more money at the *brickwall* of beauracry(sp?) problably isn't going to make things go faster.

and the fact that the US has limited / stopped the export of .308. Getting the permits required will either NOT happen or take 6 months +.

BUT>>>> If you can get hooked up and bring over a couple hundred thousand rounds..Great!!

You would need a liscense to store a large quantity and to sell it as well.
I'll take 7,000 please..............

Yes Assyrian,,,,,,,,,, I see your old posts, LOL this gun running business is interesting LOL
Kidding

Right that 1$ a piece thing scares me.....shouldn't be that damn hard.
I agree on your brick wall theory.......but there are many loops and small roads to any single one destination I noticed !

Has any ammo in surplus flavor made its way over to europe by any chance?!
I have relatives and contacts there - Just never thought of that idea........As for the problem of no ammo being unloaded at Vancouver port. One could grab a truck or 5 tonn - 10 tonn, Drive the distance and double back....As I said there an literally hundreds of methods to acquire "their items"

Yes well I am looking.......I think I see a group purchase in the distant horizon for some reason, a very large intraquit 3 digit crate order
Save some cost LOL

Take care

might be easier to set-up your own small munitions factory.
I can order brass, powder etc. to make my own 10,000 rounds.

Why can't someone set-up and make 10,000 rounds a week. Right here in Canada or B.C.. :)

Are you serious?!

If so, wouldnt that take some sort of paper work and legal holes to jump......I sure there is a gray area too!

The question the comes into play is trust !
Who is willing to trust an average joe to make munitions for them, they could labell 150gr and actually its a HOT 190 LOL

You know what I mean?

The factory sounds fine to me.......At this point in time I am willing to entertain it all.......But sounds more far fetched then buying it.

What would brass and powder and primers and such cost ?!

Thanks

Because nobody is going to trust in once fired rifle brass unless it came through there hands from there gun. Due to the war, supplies of decent FMJ is slim and expensive.

First it needs to be approved by NRCAN. Most of the surplus in the US is not. Forget about the big 3, they already have distributors and dealers.

Makes sense.............Distributors and dealers there are, but discounts can vary from company to company.....I am sure they would much rather sell 85 crates apposed to 2 or 3 to the regular customer......Thus granted a slight discount.

Better a lil one then NONE.

Say I see you have a atlas Mk for sale......those atlas machines sure do run nice - I used to have the exact same model - 6" just doesn't cut it though these days.

Do you know any good machinery dealers locally?
bell machinery is a rip off and there is little to none American or British made machinery around any more......Just cheap Taiwan ####!

Got any other machinery for sale?!

Thanks

Nope, just the Atlas. I am upgrading. If you want to make money on ammo, send me an email. It's going to be a busy year for us.

OK Lets answer the questions as I remember them...

The Dealers up here get the ammo from Distributors who have exclusives with the manufacturers.. Coast to Coast and I can remember who the other is.. They have most of the market sewn up....

As for Manufacturing you need all sorts of permits and licenses to manufacture for resale.. I went down that path invested about 40K in equipment only to find the building I planned to use would not be acceptable and because I could not afford to build what they wanted I've sort backed away... I'm still thinking about it... Each caliber will cost anywhere from $400-$2000 to have approved plus there is all the packaging requirements and magazine permits etc... it's an adventure and money pit... But if somebody has time and money

BEAR .23; You have an in depth understanding of the manufacturing ammo business in Canada....
It is an exercise in futility, and thats on a good day....
