Hey gang and hope everyone is doing well...working on my old m 305 that i bought back in 99 and changed out the spring and spring guide with sadlak parts but curious as if changing the gas piston to a tin coated one makes that much of a difference in the rifles performance ...and i have just orderd a new rear sight for it today.

thanks again for your time and comments all are greatly appreciated

heheh oh no you started spending money on your m14. broke man walking.

the piston- american gas cylinder and pistons are not compatible. Chinese piston= chinese cylinder. Change the piston and you should get a yankee cylinder b/c the parts are not in spec.

the piston might do something as in a piston that fit the cylinder properly would prolly behave the same way upon each firing thus adding to accuracy. people on m14forum.com have done accuracy tests with swapping pistons and it seems like the fit was more important than the type usgi, sadlak etc etc.....Dunno if match shooters actually do this but I read someone suggest buying 3 and doing an accuracy test with each to see which one is best......Im not doing that.

More importantly....have you shimmed the gas system so its super tight and not floppy?

or I'd Unitize that norinco gas system if you ask me. ask around for someone on here to do it and youll prolly find somebody. Another option is Dlask makes an adjustable gas cylinder nut that might tighten things a bit.

The Chinese piston is about .50
the american cylinder is about .498.

I threw my chinese piston in the lathe and hit it with some 600 emery clothe and then polished with a scotch brite pad until it slid easily in the GI cylinder
I was more worried about the piston hitting the op rod squarely.

Changing gas system parts won't do anything for accuracy.
"...spending money on your..." Applies to any firearm. Fun though.
