couldn't find any h4831, imr 4350, w760, and wasn't paying 40.00 for re22. so i got imr 4064 and some 130gr. sst's. anybody try this combo? my books list loads for this powder, and i'm going to work up a load, just wondering about other peoples experience.
thanks

When I was a Jack O'Connor reading kid I remember him writeing that the most consistent load he had come across for the .270 Win in many rifles was 49.5 gr of 4064 and 130 grainer.

When I got my sweay little hands on reloading equipment and a .270 it was a sure bet I was going to start with Jack's best guess. I only had Lee scoops for the longest time, and no chronograph but it killed everything I pointed it at.

x2...

4064 is such a versatile powder....not always ideal but can be used in so many cartridges.

I load 270, i did try 4064, i have a rem 700 in 270, 1964 vintage, however, 4831, and 4350 worked better, groups at 150 yrd with 4064 were about 3.5" 4 shots, then tried 4350 loads, very nice grouping, 2" , THE 4831 was in that ballpark as well, i use 150 gr nosler ballistic tips and sieera 130 boattail, both excellent performers im looking for some 110 gr vmax for coyote loads, or speer 90 gr boattail hollow point, as far as 4064 i didnt try alot of it, it works ok, but there are better powders in my opinion, check out some older manual's i use a hodgdon #24 manual, comparing it to my newest book from hornady, todays data is weaker, alot of powders arent used anymore, but available at gunshows and old stock in gunshops, check it out

I've used 4064 in three different 270's and it always gives good accuracy. I load 48.5 grs with 130gr bullets. I don't know the velocity , but it shoots to the same POI as max loads of IMR 4350, H4831, and RL19. I've used it at the range out to 300yds and it gives about 7" drop with a 200yd zero. It does all this with less recoil, and long case life.
