What is it commonly used for as I came across an unopened 1 lb plastic can? I think I may have bought it for cast in my 38-55 years ago. I think it is no longer made.

Excellent powder for cast bullets in rifle calibers. It will work in your 38-55. A shame it is no longer produced. I will miss it when I use up the last of mine.
