I am about to purchase powder for my Browning BLR lever .308 Win 19" barrel and wanted to stay with IMR brand powder. I was using IMR4350 in my loads with good success, but have heard that the IMR4895 was a better fit. Of all the IMR brand powders which would be best suited for a lever action and CCI 200 primers with 165 gr Nosler Partitions?

IMR4064 will be better than either. Gives more consistent accuracy. You'll still have a lot of muzzle flash and noise with a 19" barrel though.
Did you cut it? Browning doesn't list a 19" BLR. 20" only.

I really like any 4895, IMR 4064 and Varget in my .308s. Hodgdon owns both IMR and Winchester powders.

Just measured the barrel and it comes up 19 3/4 so that would probably be what they would call a 20" barrel. I have always called it a 19". It was my dads that he bought 7 yrs before I was born, so it is 51yrs old. Very accurate rifle. It has never been modified at all. I have never thought of the IMR4064 powder for it. Others tell me that the IMR4064 was better suited to the longer 30-06 case for burning.

Between IMR 4895, IMR 4064 and IMR 4320, you should be able to find a good load. You might also consider trying the newer IMR 4007. It meters nicely, and is very consistent, in my limited trials with it. Regards, Eagleye.

I noted that you said this BLR is 51 years old, but production of the BLR only began in 1969, so you may be a bit out on it's age. Those early Brownings were great rifles, regardless, so enjoy. Eagleye.

Nosler 6 Manual Info

Does anyone know if the Nosler 6 reloading manual shows the same data as their website? I have been on Nosler's website and they list the IMR4895 pwder as the only IMR powder that has data with all of their Partition bullets (150gr, 165gr and 180gr). That is why I am asking which IMR powder for the .308 Win as I do use 150gr, 165gr, and 180gr in my .308.

barrel length

correct way to measure ensure unloaded close action insert rod down barrel all the way mark rod remove and measure end of rod to the mark this is barrel lenght

Varget and 748 seem to work for me. I have just picked up some 4895 to try in my 358 BLR and might try it for the 308 as well. If you are set on IMR powders I would think that 4064 would be a good choice as well.
