Hi guys. I'm wondering if anyone has tried imr 7977 in place of h 1000 in the 6.5-284 or any similar cartridge. How temperature stable is it? How does it work in your gun and does it burn clean.

Thanks!

I used it in my 300 win mag , good accuracy but the barrel got HOT after just a few rounds , no chrno , no pressure signs , but that heat on the barrel scared me

I worked up a load with the 200 grain AB in one of my 308 Norma Mags.

Velocity is there [2970 fps] and accuracy is good. [1 moa].

Never noticed any excess heat from the barrel.

Regards, Dave.

I'm hoping for more like .3 MoA or better. Did your gun shoot better on a different powder?

I used Reloder 25 prior to this. It shot about the same. Keep in mind, this one is a factory barrel, and 1 moa is about what I expect from it.

I have 2 - Custom 308 Norma Mags, one has a McGowen, the other a Douglas. Both will shoot ½ moa with loads they like. Haven't tried IMR 7977 in either though.

Regards, Dave.

i've used it in my .300 win mag- not all that similar to your 6.5-284, but shoots 3060 fps and groups .3 moa out to 325 yrds, shooting 165 sierra HPBT.

wow who would of thought a light contour 300 Win Mag barrel would heat up after 5 shots! This powder sounds SCARY
