Thought I'd try some of the "new" 8208 in my 308 Win. Rifle is basically a "sporter" style ...Rem 700 action with Shilen barrel ... about 8 lbs ... I'm not a competition shooter, so am probably not getting the best that this rifle can do...but with 44.0 grs of 8208 behind the Berger 155 VLD's, I'm betting it could run with the big dogs. Five shot groups @ 100M were shot right to left, starting with 43.5 grs then 44.0 grs. The 44.0 gr group looked good, so I loaded another 44.0 gr and 44.5 gr and shot the bottom groups. On the 44.5 gr group, I got a bit of sticky bolt on one round. The second day, I used a couple of Sierra 150 Spitzers for foulers and even they show promise for hunting. Federal GMM brass has been fired 12 times.

Did you get the powder locally?

The range must have been quite windy, it's been quite gusty for several days now :(

Think I got the last lb in Edmonton. Wind was OK before 1000 hrs as it came from the SE and caused no problem along the berm to 100M.

Err... 8208?

What the heck? Isn't the numeration successive... As I'm using 4350/4198 for my .308? :confused:

<EDIT>

NVM, looked it up. I hope this stuff ain't too expensive! :eek:

They list max 2854 fps. for 45.3 gr. for a 155 (their barrel is probably 24").

That would put these little bergers in the 2750+ range. I'n not sure what effect the Fed GMM case has, as I think it's capacity is a little less than some of the others due to thick walls? Another factor that could come in to play, is that the chamber is throated to .060 freebore which is a bit shorter than SAAMI specs.so I suspect the pressure may be a bit higher? As I mentioned, I got a bit of "sticky" bolty on one of the rounds fired with 44.5 grs, so that is probably approaching max pressure for this chamber/barrel.
Given the number ot loads I go through, I know I should get a chrony but I have been resisting.....but every time I see one in the garbage with a hole through it...

8208

I bought 8 lbs..... Am trying in my .204 ruger.... And its definatly the good stuff...

Accuracy is what I have come to expect from the rifle, pretty much the same as previous "pet" loads, except I can be at the 4225fps range or a hair more...... 1st powder I have used that can acheive this, and Im very happy with the accuracy....

Im going to try it in my 22-250AI.....see what it does.
