IMR Powders?

IMR (DuPont) have been making powders since way before I was born. Part of the Hodgdon group now, but still a staple part of most reloaders' arsenal of stuff. I use both their 3031 and 4831 regularly. Versatile and reliable. Very good data available on the Hodgdon website....

IMR stands for Improved Military Rifle. Originally made for the U.S. Army by Dupont. IMR 5010 is a surplus powder that was used/is in .50 BMG tracer and APTI ammo. It's the slowest burning powder on the charts that list it. Hodgdon doesn't list data for it and the .50 BMG. They make H50BMG for the .50 BMG, oddly enough.

IMR powders are my favourite for handloading. They have been in production for a long time and have been of high quailiy.

I believe Hogdon used to offer H-5010 but not any more, it was a slow burning powder meant for the .50 cal. and other "overbore" cals.....unless things have changed it was not an IMR powder, and yes IMR was bought a few years ago by Hogdon. I do believe that there are quite a few new powders that perform well in the .50 BMG.....US869, H50BMG,VV24n41,AA8700, etc....Try getting some of these from the sponsors at the top of this page(yeah right!!)
