I opened a can of IMR4895 that I haven't opened in a year and a half. I pour the powder into a clear glass and start weighing some load. I suddenly realize my power is a mixture of the typical black rods that IMR4895 is, and shorter green rod powder. What the heck? Am I forgetting something or has some benchmark or varget gotten mixed into this powder by accident? I think I'm going to flush this can down the drain.

Sounds like you may have dumped H4895 in there by mistake (most obvious mistake) but then again you may have dumped something completely different in there as well.
Put it in a pile and burn it (much more exciting to watch than spreading it on the lawn) and picture $30 lying there....
At least you were observant enough to notice...if it is H4895 then it wouldn't be a life/rifle threatening mistake, but if something much faster then who knows...

"...flush this can down the drain..." Don't. Spread it on your lawn. Have to admit throwing a match on it is definitely more fun though. A Canada Day colume of fire. Did a near full can of Bullseye or Unique, long ago. Very glad I listened to the other guys and took it outside. 10 foot plus colume of fire out of a clay ash tray.

"...to make fireworks..." Not made with smokeless powders. BP and assorted chemicals. Firework plants explode with alarming regularity. Biggest plant in the U.S., or part of it blew a few years back.

How in the name of Hades' can a dude post 11831 times and never buy a thing from EE ?.
Is that what could happen to an otherwise normal individual who develops a fondness for the scent of deteriorating smokeless powder?.
Add a little isopropyl to moisten it and press it into a sturdy mailing tube to half-height, and you'd have quite the "whistle."

It looks to me like I dumped varget into it at one time. Dang it. What a waste of powder. I'm giving it to a friend who has an idea about mixing it with wax and making a firestarter. I was going to load some into some 300WSM cases to push a 165 grain bullet, but looks like I'm using 4831 instead.
