`Hi, I got this old Lakefield Mossberg Mark II. I also have a modern Savage Mark II. I've noticed most every Mark II repeater &/or mag I see for sale, is labelled as "Savage &/or Lakefield" not Mossberg- Does the 'Mossberg/Lakefield Mark II designation use a different magazine? {they look the same}

As of now, one of the Savage's mags are stuck in the old girl :p . I found a pic online of an older Lakefield/Mossberg Mark II as mine, & the mags look virtually' identical. Maybe slightly different on the 'fins'?? Not sure- Can I use this 'savage' mag in the 'Mossberg/Lakefield' ones, if I modify/file the magazine{fins} down?
Or is there, their own specific mag? I tried all 3 of my Savage Mark II mags, which do list works in 'Lakefield .22's..but nowhere have I seen any listing for Mossberg.
Here's what every mag for sale says:

*Compatible With The Following Models: Savage and Lakefield Mark II, 501, 504 and 900 Series Bolt Action Repeater

All 3 of my mags basically got stuck/were very tight, & now, the short one is stuck & the bolt won't go in...about to get it out.

Thanks for any info on this- Cheerz~

J.

The Big pic, is off an auction, selling a Mossberg/Lakefield Mark II. They do look the same as the Savage Mark II..but there has to be some differences. Guess I'll just start filing', & see where I get :p.

I was hoping, someone seeing this, has both, like me..an older Mossberg/Lakefield + a New Savage Mark II, to compare mags for the/any differences. I got the older rifle without a mag.

Seems if you have the old Mossberg/Lakefield Mark II, the newer mags, look the same, just don't fit. At least not on mine.

I'll try calling Lakefield..its not far from me too..

A springfield 84c mag would probably work, have read of people grinding the ears down on the savage mark 2 mags and adding a notch to get them to work.
Numerich has mags in stock

Hey Fred, Thank you! I think I'm going to take it 'slow' & start 'grinding'/filing' the 5 rnder I have. I did find ONE post on the inter-weebz, about the older Mark II/Mossberg, to grind down the 'fins'. {The Savage Mark II mags DO NOT Direct fit} They look the same.

Also, funny, the *Link to gun parts...she don't have MOSSBERG in there..I'm "assuming" it's link for Older Mark II's? Seems {Mossberg}it's like the Red Headed Step Child of MARK II's or something.. {& Ima Red-Head} lol

There are Lakefield/Savage. - Savage - but no love for the 'Mossberg/Savage Mark II out there. Maybe she a Rare one ... ;)
Cheers ~
