Having been a happy user of Pentax 35 mm. cameras, when I looked for a spotting scope, I chose a Pentax PF-63 Zoom and bought it from Cameraland in NYC. That was in the spring 4 years ago
My shooting days are now few and far between but we use the scope at the lake, mounted on a professional Sony video tripot.
We have an island about 500-550 metres from our deck and we watch the animal life, whether 4 legs or 2, all year long. Summertime, it is boaters, fishermen and the birds whereas in the winter, it is the whitetails feeding on the cedar overhanging the frozen lake at dusk and the local ice fishermen taking lake trout out of season!
Wish I could
!
This past week, being a frustrated old sailor with no boat, I watched in fascination as an island neighbour rigged a dinghy. I had the scope set at 40 X, the white hull of the boat was in good sun and I am certain that I would have been able to spot a bullet hole in a paper target at that range.
I paid $320 us for the scope from Cameraland and have been very satisfied with it. This is not a scope of the class of the $$$$ ones from Europe but has served me very well.
For what it is worth...
