Hi,

I went to checkout for my order but your online checkout charges me 7% PST for BC
Is there any way this can be avoided?
99% of other retailers don't charge PST on out of province purchases

Just curious if you can do anything about this?

Cheers,

TJ

Ontario is 13% hst, pretty sure I've paid the provincial taxes where the store is located, paid the bc tax on something last week and shipped here. Not sure how to avoid taxes unless you have a status card

Hst you have to pay from other provinces if you are an Hst province.

In bc we don’t have Hst. And we don’t pay pst if bought from other provinces.

Exactly, how do vendors submit PST for out-of-province sales to customers that reside in non-HST Provinces?

I can’t speak to whether they should or shouldn’t charge PST for out of province sales, but it’s dead simple to register to remit PST in BC or SK. As a business, you just complete a monthly filing online and make a payment for what was collected.

Wow, nice. I'm honestly surprised you guys have the lowest price on ammo for once. I'd buy some of I didn't just pickup two cases of brass case 9mm

Please refer to our ONLINE STORE FAQS regarding purchases and tax calculations. By law we follow applicable CRA policies as per majority of online retailers.

Note that for BC, regulations have changed recently.

Unfortunately, this does not answer the question.

I checked your site, it doesn't answer the question either.....:(

Do you charge both PST and GST on shipments destined for British Columbia?

We do not have HST in BC.

But, we pay 5% GST and 7% PST on goods purchased here.

Do we only pay GST with you on ammunition orders?

Thanks......:)

As per the FAQs, we charge tax based on the CRA Place of Supply Rules; in short, this means tax is charged (GST, GST+PST, HST, etc. as per your province) based on where your order is delivered. This is standard for Canadian suppliers.

Please note that the BC provincial government made changes to PST regarding online marketplace facilitators, effective 1 July 2022.

As such, GST + PST is charged for all orders shipped to BC.

What is your BC business number PST registration number ?

Is this an Alberta thing? As I've ordered from site sponsors in the last 2 weeks , one out of Manitoba and one out of Ontario and was only charged GST

Are you saying that all of site sponsors should be charging GST and PST as of July 1 2022 ?

I guess someone the sponsors must be not aware of the changes

Anyways thanks for the explanation

Would also like to understand the tax implications. Have recently purchased from other out of province stores and was only charged PST. This is after July 1, 2022.

What is your BC business number PST registration number ?

100% all of vendors outside of BC who charged BC PST and I asked to provide business number and PST number or refused to provide them claiming it's a confidential information or provided some incorrect numbers.
Despite the fact those numbers should be present on the any invoice where GST +PST are asked to be paid.

I am by no means a tax expert but based on the publicly available information the way I am understanding the CRA page for the place of supply rules determines whether GST or HST should be charged and makes no mention of PST.
In the case of BC, the place of supply is the delivery address meaning GST should be applicable since we don't have HST.

https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-ag...t-businesses/charge-collect-place-supply.html

According to the BC Bulletin on PST, there is a section that mentions businesses outside BC and when they need to collect PST.

https://www2.gov.bc.ca/assets/gov/t...ations/pst-001-registering-to-collect-pst.pdf

Businesses Located Outside B.C. but Within Canada
You must register to collect and remit PST if you are located outside B.C. (see Location of Your Business below) but within Canada and do all of the following in the ordinary course of your business:
 Sell taxable goods to customers in B.C.
 Accept orders from customers located in B.C. (including by telephone, mail, email or Internet) to purchase goods
 Deliver the goods you sell to your B.C. customers to locations in B.C. (this includes goods you deliver through a third party, such as a courier)
 Solicit persons in B.C. (through advertising or other means, including mail, email, fax, newspaper or the Internet) for orders to purchase goods

Note: If you have only a website that is accessible from anywhere in the world, which does not target B.C. customers, you are not soliciting sales in B.C. However, if you have a website and also solicit sales in B.C. by other means, such as through targeted internet advertisements, promotional flyers or newspaper advertisements, you are soliciting sales in B.C.
If you meet these criteria, you must be registered before delivering goods into B.C., providing software for use on or with an electronic device ordinarily situated in B.C., or providing telecommunication services.

Marketplace Facilitators and Marketplace Sellers
A marketplace facilitator is a person who:
 operates, owns or controls (solely or jointly) an online marketplace,
 through the online marketplace, facilitates a marketplace seller’s retail sale or lease of goods, sale of software or sale of related services, accommodation, telecommunication services or online marketplace services, and
 collects payment in respect of that retail sale or lease. Generally, if you are a marketplace facilitator located in or outside B.C., you must
register to collect and remit PST on the sales and leases you facilitate in B.C., and on the online marketplace services you sell or provide in B.C.

So i guess if Western Metals is online only then they need to collect PST
But if they have a business that is brick and mortar and doesn't target BC customers then they dont need to collect PST

Some websites don't follow the rules regarding sales tax properly; the idea that you're supposed to pay the sales tax based on your location (not the stores) is not even close to new, threads like this one have popped up numerous times over the time I've been around CGN.

By being a paid member on CGN they are defacto advertising to all of Canada I would think?
