I am in the market for a AR10 Heavy barrel.I would like to know is there a big difference in Rock River vs. Armalite vs. Bushmaster etc.I sure see a difference in the price and was wondering is any one better in quality than the next.

Thanks in advance.

My first priority would be to find a model that has a proven reliability track record with mags.........

What is the deal with the AR10 anyway... are long barrel versions non-restricted? (I only ask 'cause I heard someone say "I want to buy a non-restricted AR10" which confused the hell out of me.)

I would go for an Armalite. They've been around for a long time, and the bugs have been ironed-out. Plus, you cannot go wrong buying from Wolverine Supplies, the Armalite importer.

In terms of ammo, just remember that soft-point is a no-no in the Armalite, and probably in all of the AR variants in 7.62. Soft-point rounds will jam during feed.

My own observation with the AR10 is that it's a very tight gun when new, and can take a bit of shooting (a few hundred rounds) before it is properly broken-in. Until that point, I experienced the odd problem, mostly ejection issues. Your mileage may vary.

All AR10 models are restricted.

the original AR10's from the 50's were all select fire except for a small amount of semi only. these semi only from the 50's are non-restricted.

the newer ones from armalite are restricted because armalite sold them as a big brother to the AR15.

the armalite, eagle arms and knight's SR25 share alot of parts. they use modified M14 mags.

the bushmaster ones are not made anymore. they had issues with the bolts failing. the design was sold to Rock River Arms. RRA isn't out just yet. they hope to have it by late summer. supposed to use their own mags in the rifle. the bushmaster used FAL mags.

DPMS also make a version. they use FAL mags also.

my personal favorite is the Armalite/Eagle arms. sorta the original. but there is alot of hype with the soon to be out RRA being better. the best is probly the SR25 from knights, also the most expensive and almost impossible to get right now. the US army is taking every one they make.

Count one more vote for Armalite. I've got one of their flat-top AR-10s and it truly surprised me accuracy-wise. Shooting Israeli ball ammo, it consistently puts 5 rounds into 3/4 MOA, all the way out to 300 meters. Haven't had any functioning problems whatsoever. Heavy and expensive. but truly a quality firearm.

Powerwagon, you are a little mixed up on your .308 cal rifles.

SR25 and DPMS use the original 50's style mags or their own new ones, they are all interchangeable.

Armalite AR10 (new style) uses modified M14 mag.

Bushy and RRA use FN metric mags.
