I've no need for a take down short rifle and there are too many QC issues with Chiappa's for my liking. I'll stick with my Rossi .45 Colt build as it is a good, solid performer. By fitting an XS rear peep on these wee buggers, ye end up with a sight radius about the same as a 20" model using the barrel mount sight & it's great for older eyes.

Oooh... and .45 Colt as well. What's not to like? Where did you get it? Did you have to do much slicking up?

Anyone happen to find the mare's leg short stock for the Alaskan takedowns? Mine is marked mare's leg but has the full stock.

I got my one from Epps back in '13 & stripped 'er down, de-burred the action, fit a Steve's Guns ejector spring along with a PGW butt stock and hand formed the butt plate using 1/8" brass flat stock. I've got a PGW fore end in my stash which I'll be fitting over the winter to match the rear better along with finish sanding both stocks.

I used a milling machine to drill & tap for the XS peep. Cut & reshaped the lever to boot and fitted a Marbles front sight. The slowest part of the build was the forming of the butt plate. The wee beasty shoots tight inside 100 yds with me hardcast loads.

2nd question, anyone recommend a sight tool for these skinner sights?

I DETEST trying to fudge an inch to the left/right with a punch and hammer!

I'm pretty close to bang on now but I might just zero off at 50 and call it a day. If I think of it as a mares leg with a stock I expect less than thinking its a 357 carbine with a short barrel...

I've never found one that I was willing to pay for. I use a small soft neoprene hammer, without a punch. Use painters tape on the sight a barrel and fine tip pen to see how much it moves.

are any of these chiappa rifle made of stainless (not just silver colored finish?

Nope, to my knowledge they are hard chromed, not stainless.

Could anyone suggest the source of standard size loop for Alaskan TD? My 12" TD came with oversized loop and I would like to change it. Maybe someone likes bigger loop and would like to trade?

I got a regular blued 92 loop from an online supplier (I didn’t see anymore on their website) and it fit fine. Search around and I’m sure you will find one, getting it hard chromed might be more difficult, maybe find a pistol smith who does this.
