Well today is the first Sunday I have gun hunted for deer in my area (Cavan/Peterborough) in.... well forever!:)
In celebration of this momentous occasion I am going to do my damndest to fill a couple more tags. I will get some video for posterity regardless of success... the fellas are hating my new Sony HDD.:runaway:
We have had our usual success so far with 12 deer killed, unfortunately we have had some misses and equipment failure as well.
I had the the scope come loose on my Benelli and it damn near cost me a long tracking job on a very nice eight point. Thankfully Chilly Willy had my back and put a slug behind the ear before he made it to the swamp.
I have since developed a more intensive check list on my firearms since that instance.
We had a couple of fellas get the fever and miss a huge buck that I spent hours dogging out of the swamp.... pretty hard to bite my tongue on that one! Then the same two guys did the same thing on the same runway on a very large doe the very next shift... I could not bite my tongue that time and both guys spent an hour on the range later in the day.
The weather has been spotty and the deer are full in the rut so I am happy with the results so far. I would really like to kill a deer on a Sunday with a gun... wish me luck.:dancingbanana:

I hope that there are a ton of guys out hunting today... keep it safe and good luck people.:D

Good Luck and have a safe hunt!

I came back empty handed from the 85c opener (the fields were cut a few days before, and harveters working 24 hours everywhere in the county) anyway, I got one from my Alberta hunt already.

Today's Sunday hunt was quite nice. Only after deer today but saw two nice bears early. I passed on a spike buck later. And I shot a grouse. A good day in my church:cool:

Sounds like you are having a very fine hunt indeed, BR! We were skunked up in 66A at my new camp, hunted all week and did not even SEE a live deer while hunting.

And Sunday (yesterday) I took it easy around the house, cleaning up and putting away from the hunt week. Could have stayed at the camp for another day to have a Sunday gun hunt, but it was raining on Saturday, the forecast was for more rain, most of the guys had already left and so I came home a day early. I don't regret missing the Sunday hunt, there are still 49 days left in the deer season...........

So howdjadoo?

Well I cranked a huge doe with three minutes shooting time left last nite to make it lucky 13. I could have shot two more but we only had the one doe tag in the field last night. I was very lucky to see the deer at all the overcast made it dark very early.
I managed to make some noise and put some meat in the freezer.... for the first time ever on a Sunday here. I saw no other hunters out and heard no shots anywhere, I wonder if anybody else even knows about the extra day?

good job sneaky Redd! Was this the first kill from the Pro Hunter or did she fall to the SBE II? Who finished the job for ya? HA HA. Gotta love those Leupold scopes for light gathering eh. I went out yesterday afternoon with the Xbow and heard / saw squat!

My first ever Sunday hunt was a success! Even though I was dragged out of bed against my will, I ended up shooting a buck and a doe at 8:30 on the way back into the house. Other than that I heard NO shooting at all, just my 2 shots :dancingbanana:

Yeah I will post some pics as soon as I figure out this new Sony HDD handi cam, I was told I need a new DVD drive, any way Junior is coming to hook me up on the weekend and then I will download everything to the puter. I have been shooting video of all the funny stuff this year, including a wicked scope eye on yours truly... don't ask! I will likely delete that footage.
Big Tony and I went back to the field this morning to check it out and a big buck scraped the place up hard all around the gut pile. We hit his scrape line hard with doe in heat and buck in the rut scent.
Guess where we are hunting tonight?:runaway:

corn feeder?

You just can't help yourself can you?

We have hunted extremely hard to shoot deer this year... bad weather, spotty rut, and a lot of misses by some inexperienced hunters. We should have another three or four deer hanging if not for cluster ####s. But it is hunting and we try to make the most of it.
No we don't have feeders out.... that is for the off season, bad winters and early spring when the deer and the turkeys need it.
We have shot a couple of deer in the hay and cut bean fields but you know all about that now don't you, seems I remember a Moose going down in a big alfalfa field in your neck of the woods.:p
