Inconsistencies in Federal primers

I was priming with Federal magnum rifle primers and noticed that in the same box of 100, many primers either had what looked like to much of whatever-the-hell ingredients they used, while some primers had very little.

Most of the 100 had what appeared to be the same amount. Some primers were so full I couldn't see the anvil, while others were all anvil and just a speck of the purplish compound.

I wonder if this means anything. I have avoided Federal primers in the past, as I read that the Lee hand tool recommends against them, and the soft cups are supposedly not recommended for my semi-autos.

I examined a box of REmington 9 1/2's and each primer looked very much like all the rest. The same for Winchester.
Maybe I should avoid Federals altogether. CCI? Win?

I only use h/gun primers & for my PPC revolvers I use Federal only. For the semi-auto guns the hammer fall is so heavy that it will ignite any CCI, Winchester or you name it.

Hard to believe Federal flunked. You have the batch number so I would contact them.

i think the purple you are looking at is the the identifing paint maybe? i noticed that too, they were inconsistant with that crap on the primers, all the small rifle/pistol, large rifle/pistol every different primer has a different color identifying them over the anvil, i notice most other manufacturers use some sort of thin ink, while feder uses some sort of paint or something i dont know but its messy.
i dont know if it affects accuracy much seeing as its going to be disintigrated by the primer flash instantly!

I don;t use them beacuse in my Lee Autoprime they are constatly flipping over. Perhaps this is the reason Lee says not to use them.
This is the same reason I won't use them in my Hornady Projector. Never had a problem with Winchester.
