Inconsistent seating depth-45ACP

I was chasing an inconsistent seating depth, it varied by 5 to 30 thousands.
Figured I best take the die apart for a looky-loo.
As the seater plug is a little over 40 years old, I expected it to be in better shape
than this. Oh well, off to the junk parts drawer to look for something that will work.......

Pretty sure that can be fixed with duct tape.

Buff it up. Put a dab of JB Weld on it. Put some mold release on a bullet. Gently push the bullet into the seater die.

What make is the die? If it's and RCBS and the thread pitch hasn't changed they might send you a free replacement plug.

This is how I'd do it. Let the JB harden over night and you're good to go.

Thanks for the advice. Since I only use truncated cone or flat nose bullets, I just ground off the taper,
so I have a flat plug now.
It works........

Once a year take apart all dies and clean. Repeat as necessary.
