indexing barrel on budget rifles

Back off the locking collar, turn the barrel, retighten the collar? Sure.
But headspace will be affected.
Why would you need to do this? Sights not top dead center?

just occured to me that with fixing the barrel to match headspace, with pre threaded barrels it may be hit and miss, is it possible for barrel maker to thread the barrel in a such way that it will be indexed when it hits the go gauge

planning on rebarreling my savage to a .308, i like to overthink some problems i presume i may run into

The barrel can be machined with a shoulder, and fitted.
If a collar is used, the barrel is turned in until headspace is correct, and the collar tightened.

which would require work done by a gunsmith

i like the idea of being able to swap barrels as need be, gunsmiths are hard to come by and wait lines are long, which only shows what great service they provide, alas for a properly tuned rifle seems like they won't be getting short of costumers any time soon

I have never quite 'got' the need for swapping barrels as need be.

I think the easiest way is to simply have a gunsmith fit and chamber as many barrels as you want with a shoulder (throw away the nut if you have one) to an action. Then you can swap them with repeatable reliability, indexed and correctly head spaced.
