Quite educational.
India is manufacturing its own T-72, T-90 tanks, BMP's, etc..
Additionally a lot of variants along the kalishnikov line.

However this was a suprise.
Check these stats out.

.315" SPORTING RIFLE

IOF .315calibre designation is not of British origin. I think that it can be accepted as a modern application of the 8X50R cartridge under a new name.

Newly re-manufactured enfields designed to run a 244gr 8mm projectile on what mildly resembles a 8X50R shell.

Some additional info

This 8mm Indian .315 is a lower velocity heavier bullet ( 244 grains ) round, centrefire, rimmed. Looks like a modified or improved .303 British Parent case backed up by a heavy 244gr 8mm bullet. Perhaps to use IOFs existing .303 cartidge tooling and make use of the plethora of enfield actions in circulation in India.

Trajectory of 244 Grain IOF , .315 round.

50 yards +1 inch
100 yard spot on,
150 yards -1/2 inch
200 yards - 2 inch
300 yards - 7 inch
400 yards - 11 inch.

Scans of measured dimensions of the IOF.315/ 8mm cartridge. They look very similar to the 8X50R Cartridge!

Ctg dimensions are the same as 8x50R Austrian. BSA made LE rifles in 8x50R for sale in India after .303" was banned c1900.

Yes I noticed the 'MADE IN ENGLAND' stamp on the barrel. They must be reboring old stock .303 barrels to .323" and rechambering for the new cartridge.

I just thought it was strange that a common military cartridge such as the .303 British could not be adopted for civilian use. Rules and Regulations like these don't make any sense to me, but then again lots of our own Cdn regs make no sence to me as well. Especially those that prohibit 25 and .32 cal handgun calibres.

Were any of you guys aware of the .315 Enfields being remanufactured in India?

India ordnance also makes two handguns for sale to civilians, a .32 S&WL revolver and a 32 ACP semi.

Yeah man! Did you check out the rest of the stuff on that site? In particular, all the different rifles, including new BREN's? It would be nice if they could cook up some semi versions for us...

What the h*ll are they doing rechambering Enfield barrels, couldn't they just ship a few as they are to my house!!!!!! - sheesh

The story about these Indian rifles has been reported here in the past, the reason for the calibre change was because of a British mandated law prohibiting sale and use of firearms in then current British military ammo. The pictures of the rifle you are showing is in fact from a British made/modified rifle for use by British hunters in India, it is not of one of the currently Indian made Lee Enfield hunting rifles.

I remember reading about this particular British rifle in a Indian gun forum many years ago.
