A burning question that I have to figure out.

Would my Winchester Select Field 12 Gauge have an inertia reset for the second barrel once the first is fired? It has a single trigger with a barrel selector. I can not find a definitive answer to this, and I will be unable to get out to the range for a while to test it.

Easy way to find out:

clear it
load snap caps
fire action
pull trigger again

If it fires the second time then it is mechanical not inertial.

then:
smack the butt with your hand fairly hard
pull trigger again

If it fires this time then it is inertial.

Really both systems work just fine, but almost all 12ga are inertial.
Cheers,
Grant

Put a couple of snap caps or fired shells into the chamber --- pull the trigger once then again if it goes click on the 2nd pull you have mechanical triggers -- if it does not fire on the 2nd pull you have an inertia trigger set up. I suspect you will find they are indeed inertia.

There's an easy way to tell. Open the gun, close it and then pull the trigger. It should go "click." Then pull the trigger again. If it goes "click" the second time then it's a mechanical trigger. If it doesn't go click the second time firmly rap the butt with a rubber mallet or gently drop the gun butt first onto a hard surface to see if that resets the trigger. Pull the trigger again.
