I just picked up a .44 mag right here on CGN and I am looking for some plinking ammo... My long term plan is to eventually use this for a hunt in the US so i will also have to practice with some hevay factory stuff. But in the meantime, I wiould like to get some tame loads... any suggestions?

I will likely have ot reload at some point.

If you don't reload them your only choice for a light load in factory is .44 Special. Winchester I believe used and may still make .44 special for Cowboy action shooting so that would be the tamest. remember to clena out the cylinder chambers after shooting lead .44 special as the case is shorter and you may get lead deposits which might intyerfere with easy feeding of the .44 mag cases.

I think you're pretty much stuck with reloading. The cheapest .44 Magnum ammo I could find wasn't very cheap. Doesn't matter to me now since I bought a .44 Magnum die set and now I can shoot hundreds of rounds instead of just one or two boxes.

OK... how about less expensive?
I found .44 listed for $25.99/50 at wholesale sports.... does it get any better?
Lever had some PMC lead SWC ammo for about $20-$25 per box a while ago. Really, .44 Magnum is one of those cartridges where it pays big time to reload. It's common enough that reloading components are easy to find and cheap, and factory ammo is expensive enough to cover your reloading costs in no time flat.

Or you could do the Wolf thing like canucklehead suggests.
