Need a case for my AR. I'll do a nice hardcase setup with them fancy foam blocks eventually, but right now I'm just looking for something basic to get it from point A to point B. Any suggestions?

I use a VISM soft case ,double carbine case, tons of room, I think you can get them for $60-80 on eBay etc. holds 2 carbines, a couple of pistols and a bunch of gear, works well for me

The quality of the case was pretty good for the price.

For sure. To be honest I've never once seen a hard case that I looked at and thought "Well, my gun will get broken in that." lol

I like the foam blocks in those ones because it'd let me make a professional operator-y type setup. Reeeeealllll fancy like.

The cabelas tactical gun case is a nice soft case for $75. That's what I use most of the time I got tired of packing around heavy plastic cases for nothing. Now I only use the hard plastic ones if I need to put it in the box of the truck.

I picked up a soft case at a paintball place. $50 and amazing quality. Guess they can't markup the same way when the demographic is mostly teenagers.

I picked up a plano at basspro late last year... 4-latch, two of those lock
don't remember the exact $ but it was good enough I jumped at it. holds my scoped and dotted 11.6mrr assembled, 2xp226, 2.1911 plus mags for everything
sturdy case too. I could chuck this thing down a set of stairs and I wouldn't worry about anything getting f'd up
if I remember i'll dig up the model # when I get home from work

I've seen those. Might end up being what I go with. Was hoping to go with a soft case to hold off on the expense for now, but if I'm going to be 70 bucks for a soft case I might as well pony up the extra.
Personally, I would rather spend $70 on a soft case than $140 on a hard case. The padded soft cases are very well built, much easier to lug around, mine has backpack straps on it, numerous pouches and storage, and I just find hard cases to be overkill, bulky and generally just a pain in the butt to lug around. Just my opinion, but I would at least look at a couple in person if you have never used one, you might be surprised

Unless your traveling with it and those apes in the luggage department of the airline are going to be handling it a soft case is all you need.
What do you need to protect it from if it's you handling it? You know your pride and joy is in there so treat it accordingly, if it wasn't the law to have it in a case I'd just throw it on the back seat with a jacket between it and the rifle next to it and go without a case. Speaking of the law, just make sure the zippers have a large enough loop you can get a lock through them.
