Ok I know this is much like any other build, and I built this upper for one of my best Mates. I decided to post it here as some of the things I have learned about this build could benefit someone else and I would also like to review some of the parts here.

Upper receiver – older style LMT forged upper (pre markings)
Barrel – Noveske Infidel 13.7 inch barrel 1/7 twist 5.56 chamber
Krink Brake – Noveske KX3
BCG – enhanced semi auto (full circle and shrouded FP area) and KAC Chromed Bolt
Rail – Larue 13.0 with anti-spin design
Gas Block – Larue low profile

Ok here are the reviews and some eye candy:

First the complete upper:

In terms of size, I like this set up. I currently run an M4gery Bushy upper with a 14.5 inch barrel and A2 FH mated with a modded KAC Too-Long FFRAS. So going to this one isn’t a big jump. I do like how it balances though and the OAL is close to my current upper with the longer KX3. I do like the extra room with the 13.0 rails though when you [georgecarlinvoice]need more stuff[/georgecarlinvoice] to add on to them.

When it just gotta be a PIG:

Ok so far I like Noveske’s stuff and I have been know to sniff and taste the odd glass of Kool-aid, how ever there are some things here that I wanna mention. The machining on this is nice and par for most AR mfg’s. The fit on this Noveske barrel was a bit to be desired though. Either there was off cut threads on either the barrel or KFH cause it was a significant grunt to get it on. Screwed on nicely down about half way down the threads on the barrel then it got REAL tight. Took it all apart and checked it and couldn’t see very much even when I did my famous “thousand yard squint” :D . Anyways I eventually got it on when I stuck my tongue out at the right angle and gave a few grunts as I turned it on. Build tip...I clamped the barrel and mounted it first then removed it. The when the rail was on I installed it as the finish. Try to do the major grunting BEFORE you get the rail on (it was designed for the serious torquing).

Ok Ok…I have to admit I am a KAC slut….I love KAC rails (especially the FFRAS) maybe because they were one of the originals…will always have a soft spot for them too…..BUT…Larue does a FREEKING amazing job at machining and whom ever they subbed out the anodizing, too man they do a great finish job. The rail is the latest rendition that has the any twist design that bolts on to the back of the rail tighten nut. If you use the clam shell style receiver clamp from Brownells/Peace River Arms then any tightening of the FH has to be done BEFORE you screw in the last two screws for the anti-twist device or you need to mod your clamp to allow for the screws (not a big deal – but I was a bit lazy). Over all I would highly recommend the Larue rail (it get’s Boltgun’s stamp of approval:cool: )

Now a little note about the gas block. I personally prefer the design of the KAC from an aesthetic standpoint, but like their rail, this thing is well designed and engineered (hard to argue with that eh?).

Noveske Barrel – ½ way through the build I discovered that the gas system is Midlength NOT carbine length….so a few days later for the Middie gas tube to arrive I installed it. The barrel looks to be a blank that is marked and but to order as the barrel markings on the top at the front were partial machined off….too bad as it detracts from the overall look of an obviously high quality barrel (if that kind of thing bugs ya…most here could care less).

Unfortunately I won’t be able to shoot this as I have to get to the owner and won’t likely get to use till I have to replace the barrel for him.

ETA: I was wrong..this is an Infidel Upper not an Afghan.

Anyways that was my .02…thanks for looking.

I have seen those Krink/Noveske brakes a few times... I was wondering whats so great about them? No ports?

Neg on ports...allows a little more back pressure to build for the shorter barrels (not needed on this configuration as it is a longer barrel and Mid-length gas system anyways) to aid in reliability. Pure aesthetic in this case.

yeah I was looking to do a simlar build with a Rock River 10.5- but was gonna go with a Vortex brake. Do you think in factory shortie I could use the extra back pressure or not? Or is it more for M4geries that are stock 16s that have shortened barrels added to them? BTW, I like the integrated rail system...Im building similar with Troy stuff.

if any gun usually has problems it is a shorty....that said you can deal with it by adding a black buffer and heavier extractor spring. A Krink style FH will only help. The Krink won't touch a Vortex for flash hiding but it has a differnet purpose.

the dumb question of the week.... most of the time do you never need to remove the barrel to install a rail? The anti spin mounts on the barrel nut with centering nuts? I want to make sure when I get my parts all lined up I dont have any problems. The gas block pipe is just held in by compression?> Doesnt look like a standard compression fitting. How often on shorties do you have clean the gas block-pipes? Is fouling more or an issue with short barrels?

only have to remove the barrel for some free float rails (daniel defense, KAC, Larue, PRI). Some FF tubes you dont (samson/ troy).

the gas tube is help in place with in the gas block by a tiny roll pin.

you need to follow directions for instal to ensure that everything lines up. very very very difficult to loosen a barrel once everything is installed with out breaking something.

neg on the fouling issue, you can use a pipe cleaner to clean the inside of the tube when you need to clean it maybe ever couple of thousand rds...I have never cleaned mine and it hasnt failed yet.

Most of the free float tubes have to have the barrel taken off to put them on. You are usually replacing the barrel nut and delta ring with a threaded barrel nut of sorts and then attaching the tube to it. Non-free float rails generally do not require the removal of the barrel for installation.

Larue has a pretty good step by step of showing how theirs go on.

The gas block is held in place by either taper pins or locking screws which is another debate upon itself.

I had a difficult time threading the KFH also, half way down and it was tight, I blamed on the parkerizing of the threads, I just worked the KFH on and off going a little deaper everytime, went on great and is tight without washers.

I have the classic design and it works very good for blast, I tested it at the range on an 11.5" gun shooting indoors with guys on the side, they were impressed by the reduction in concution blast.

yeah thanks for the help. I am trying to figure out if its gonna be better to have a g-smith do the install or buy the vise blocks and wrenches.

yeah I know...im just trying to budget stuff right now abit...figure the rifle with goods alone will be close to 3k.

I got the KFH specifically to reduce blast and it works great! Plus it's got high LCF!!! :D
