Looks like a fairly new influx of Indian Enfields are inbound. If you think its an original LONGBRANCH look again it probably has an Ishy Screw. Not that this is a problem but most of these rifles (at least the ones I've seen) are fairly beat up for the asking price. Both SMLE's and No4's are coming in of varying manufacture and condition.

Just a Heads up.

I've owned all of the above
All great rifles
I'd have no problem putting any of the above up against Lithgow or Longbranch.

However the latter had nicer milling & finish.
I'd have no problem showing up to a shoot armed with an Indian Enfield at all. In many respects the mahogany is quite beautiful.

Never seen a POF Enfield, but shot some of the ammo, it was good stuff! Got a pic of your POF Riflechair? I agree, some of the Ishy wood is gorgeous, here's my 1944 .410, sorry for the so-so pic.

Thanks for the heads up!

I saw some LB's in the EE that look pretty beat up.

Ha! they don't even come close to the mint 1950 LB that a nice fellow in the GRVD sold me for $300.

Now, if I could just find a mint No.4 Mk.II for the right price...:D

I sold it quite a while ago.
Here is one from Empire Arms
C05062.jpg

PAKISTANI Model No.4 Mk.2 Enfield bolt-action rifle # C05062 (.303 British) mfg. by Pakistan Ordnance Factory (POF) in 1957. Excellent condition, with full oil-blacked finish on the metal. Very little actual wear, all-matching numbers, with a mirror-perfect 5-groove bore and a 1-marked bolt-head. Wood has some handling-marks and storage-dings as well as rack-numbers stamped in it and a reinforcing screw in forend.

The Pakistani's also made a lot of .303 British. A lot of mixed reviews. A lot of hang fires with this ammo.

Riflechair, did you have a POF rifle manufactured at the POF factory in Pakistan? These were dated 1959/60 according to Skennerton's book.
I've got a POF marked #4, but I believe it is a FTR, Fazakerley.
I thought I had some pics of it stashed on the 'puter but can't find them - I'll take some tomorrow and post.

OK, what does this look like and were does one look for this on the rifles?

It goes right through the forestock (horizontally) about one inch in front of the king screw/mag well area. It's a big screw, you can't miss it.

Don't worry about it. All it does is keep the wood from cracking, which apparently is common in Lee Enfields. My 48' Faz has one, and it shoots like a dream. As long as the bore and headspace are good, then you have nothing to worry about.

Only collectors get their panties in a bunch over stuff like that.

Hi Canuck.
Mine was a No4Mk1 ROF that the Pakistani's FTR'ed. I don't recall if they ever started building these rifles from scratch. I suspect there were no shortage of actions available - The only anomaly I've seen was a POF No4Mk2T with a Mk3 scope but with POF markings. Quite an interesting piece. I believe I saw it on Joe Salter.

Paskistan bought the Enfield tooling and machinery from England from one of the BSA Factory and built some No.4 MKII in-country, before switching over to semi-autos. The ones available now have the Ishapore screw, probably captured during one of the many Wars India fought against Pakistan and later rebuilt in India.

Didn't I hear that Canada bought a bunch of Indian Enfields to supply the Rangers, along with No 4 Mk 2's? They were the only big quantities available apparently.

Anyone seen a Ranger rifle with an Ishy screw?

BTW, if that POF ammo has cordite, does that not erode the throat of your barrel excessively? Aside from the click.......bang issue.

Actually, those Ranger Enfields came form Century Arms when thy still had their main office in Montreal and that was quite a few years ago. None of those had the Ishapore screw.
