Any info on this 1906 Mauser is appreciated. I am thinking its a Stoeger import. all numbers match. The pics should tell the story. Any idea where I could find the correct rear sight?

What would you like to know? Serial number places it around 1924 d.o.m. It's been heavily refinished and modified. Looks like a Type B originally, but the stock has been refinished and a recoil pad added. Notch cut on the right side for a receiver sight. The metal has been reblued and it has a multitude of extra holes drilled and tapped. Bolt handle has been modified, bolt body jewelled, original safety is missing.

Good solid action, but the value is not high due to all the mods.

P.S. The 1906 refers to the calibre, U.S. .30 calibre of 1906, now known simply as .30/06.

Thanks 9.3mauser. So it was probably imported by Stoeger ? And then modified by a gunsmith ? I new it had modifications but looks to me whoever done them knew what they were doing.

Nice rifle, it has some character. I'd be happy to own one like that.

Yup, that is a nice old rifle. The only mod that i could live w/o would be the stock change to accommodate the receiver sight, but even that was done well and looks ok. That hinged FP is very nice.

I'd find a rear sight, rings & bases and get it bedded.

That is a classy looking rig there, nicely done up and the type of older school rifles I like. A great addition to any cabinet, really like it.

It's possible it was brought in by Stoeger's, but unless it's stamped somewhere there's no way to prove it. Von Lengerke & Detmold ( AKA Von Lengerke & Antoine) also imported them and possibly others as well.

Unfortunately, that NECG rear site is the incorrect dovetail size. It is considerably wider than the standard dovetail. You may be able to get the correct one from Voere. I contacted them a few years ago to get one. Sent a picture of the base with the measurement of the top of the dovetail, and the had the sight. Was a bit less than 80 Eu at that time.

You can also make one yourself from mild steel using nothing more than a vise, files, and emery paper. Takes a while, but is brimming with satisfaction when completed. Big Ugly Man on this site can tell you about a rear sight his dad made by hand for his 9.3X62.

Nothing wrong with that rifle. It will do anything the most modern 30-06 will do, and more than some. Good catch!

PS: I see, pun intended, that peebucket continues their nice policy administration with your pictures as well.
