They were Tanfoglio made pistols imported by Springfield Armory in the late '80's and early '90's, the base p9 was very much like a CZ or swiss AT88. The LSP stood for long slide ported. It is what it sounds like, it had a longer heavier slide and the ports cut in the barrel (and slotted slide) were to reduce muzzle flip much like magna-porting or similar. A lot of P9LSP were turned into full house IPSC race guns, the newer Tanfoglio Limited Pro would be the current version or the Limited Custom or Stock III would be slightly upgraded models with long heavy dust covers to reduce recoil instead of the porting.

A friend of mine had a plain jane P9. Said it was the worst gun he ever owned and he had a Herbert Schmit (sp?) and an Astra!. It suffered every conceivable failure; feed, fire, extract and eject. Kept breaking parts too. A total turd. Swears he will never again own anything made by "Tinfloggio" as he calls them.

Another buddy had a whizzier model in .40 S&W that had the chamber split and totally lock up the gun.

Auggie D.
